850 hp, and even with AWD, race tires and aero its barely on the track.
I love it! :D

That car is lovingly called the "Gobstopper" see the buildup here:

(shhhhh, don't show adam, he'll think it's a stock Subaru) LOL :p :D

hmmm an AWD car .....

with 850hp..and very little wheel spin...

Stephen how is that possible with all the weight transfer?

I think that if you have $300,000+ to spend on a car, SoloSprint isn't going to net you the sponsorship to make it worthwhile.

But yes, you'll notice that it really didn't pick up and go out of a corner until he had it completely straight, and (at least mostly!) on the tarmac.

On my list of things to buy after my 649 win...

What's the big deal? My Nissan has at least 95 HP, this Subie only has
85 0!

if you had a 850hp RWD or FWD vehicle..

what kind of wheel spin would you have given the aggressive driving he was doing?

thats my point...

Yeah, the standard Subie line :p (no wonder you guys are quicker ... you cut off all the corners without fear of bottoming out or suffering the almighty one-wheel-peel!! ;))

You're right ... given the amount of power that car has, it looks pretty "in control" for being so close to the edge of "out of control" (again, esp. when you consider that it has more than twice as much power as any of our higher powered cars, and as much as 9 times as much power as a car with ~95 HP!!! ).

That would be the reason we use cones at the apices of various corners. The Koifman/McFadden line tends to leave a lot of crap on the track for those of us who follow. (even though it does appear to be fast for those who have enough wheel traction despite crap on the track :D )

This guy wouldn't win anything is SoloSprint as he would have been black flagged every session.

Pete ...my point exactly..

the AWD lets him extract that power to the ground...

a 850hp RWD/FWD car would just leave 2 black stripes every time they were on the gas..and a big smoke show..

(what a smoke show it would make though :) )

a RWD car could also be built more compact and efficient than an AWD car.

without a need for front drive shafts, a suspension could be designed with maximum handling in mind.

without a need for front drive shafts, engine placement could be optimized. pop the hood of an S2000 or a Corvette and you'll be scratching your head trying to find the engine

pop the hood of a RX7 and you'll think the engine is in the trunk.

smart built cars like the 944 and RX7's have nearly perfect weight distribution.

850 horse power? when, in 4thrd gear climbing over 5000 RPM? for a 2.5 liter to be making that much you would need to be running 2.5 bar, if not 3. You're a turbo expert Adam, how much boost are you making mid corner in 3rd gear?

power delivery is 50% driver 50% car, ive seen you drive adam, you dont exactly have a light foot, i dont know if it was just you jerking around, ive never been out with you during competition... but anyway.

here is another one adam

maybe you should try building a sub 2000LB RWD car with about 250 HP, then see how you do :)

Found the engine in the S2000!!! :D

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3223/2844131600_7a81e906b0_b.jpg

And a Corvette engine is right there under the hood too ;). Although GM still managed 50/50 weight distribution with the engine up in the front.

Now if you look under the hood of my Camaro, ~25% of the engine is under the windshield  ... and weight distribution is still something like ~52/48??

Sorry, but I don't think the benefits of better weight distribution out-weigh (no pun intended) the benefits of more-wheel-drive .

unfortunetly, weight distribution has no benefit when you weight something stupid like 3400lb without the driver ;)

the car in question is claimed to be at 1120 kgs (or 2460 lb without driver)

have it line up with a 2000lb similary race prepped RWD vehicle and i would bet money on the RWD car if we're talking cornering speeds.

a mazda mx5 stripped down would do the trick

a lotus elise already beats that mark

wow I guess AWD is such a detriment to racing then :)

I guess a LSD is a bad thing too?

or even better why have any wheels driving the car forward :) zero wheel drive would be the ultimate..good on gas too :)

hmmm wonder why F1 banned AWD variants? or many other series that segregate them ? hmmmm

he he ..yeah we also sheared off the rear hub last time we were out too :)

first, an AWD F1 car will be fundemantly different design than a RWD, its a moot point. You cant even compare F1 to street chassis cars.

second, i never said AWD is detrimental, but its not king of flat pavement street racing either.

third, Solosprint will never see a 2400lb 850 Subaru, and if it will, its going to be in open, and then it will have no competition.

like i said before adam, focus your energy at the weight classification issue than the driveterrain layout, your arguments hold more water there.
