As some of you know, I'm restoring the prototype '68 Rambler American (Shell 4000 Rally)...spent an interesting afternoon with Dave Mackenzie (friend/team mate of the late Sid Crump, car owner post rally). In addition to the winter rallies that were entered, Dave remembers Sid entering a couple of CASC club races at Mosport in he thinks 1970 with the Rambler. Sid added a roll bar apparently to comply to rules. There are 2 small oval silver decals near the bar at quarter windows and one on the dash. Anyone know if these were a "tech sticker"? These ones are unreadable, but from their placement...? Also would like to know what year chassis plates/log books started.
Thanks,
Seann
(still haven't found a period photo of this car, between '68 & '73 it ran the Knox Hill Climb, crossed Canada as a chase car for the 3 white Ramblers in Shell 4000 '68, ran several Ontario winter rallies, later towed Dave's Lotus 7 out east to race, then towed a Bobsy to Gimli for the runoffs & ran club races at Mosport...somebody has to have a picture! If you were around any of those events, please have a look and send anything you've got to seann@thehappyroadracer.com)
