When I cleaned mine I researched that an electric spray cleaner would be ideal.
I could see the metal surface and wires on the MAF had a little bit of residue on them (Probably from the oiled air filter)
Ignoring my findings I used.. brake cleaner (cleaned up the parts nicely!) The MAF worked well for a couple more months but eventually died.
The brake cleaner might have killed it, but I think it was on its way out anyways. Either way, avoiding brake cleaner would be safe.
Is your MAF dirty or otherwise underperforming?

I found a product from CRC actually called Mass airflow sensor cleaner:) Isaw lots of throttle body cleaners etc but they all cleaned and LUBRICATED which isn't what you want.
I took off the Maf last night and cleaned it with said product(crc) and reassembled. This morning problem wasn't gone(no power, running real rough)but on the way home tonite the car seemed back to normal:confused: I will give it a few days and post back.

I am pretty sure that MAF's don't need to be cleaned as they go through a self cleaning process when the engine is shut down. Typically when the engine is shut down the MAF "probe" will glow red hot to burn away contaminents and be ready for the next start up.
MAF's come in multiple shapes and types.
Hot Wire
Transducer type
Gated potentiometer / varesistor (Toyota)
etc.
In most cases, if you can go to The Source, Active Electornics, Sayal or that type of store, and purchase a non residual contact cleaner, that'll work fine.
If your MAF housing is plastic, you should test the non residual cleaner on the outside before spraying it on the wire.
Hope this helps.
