View Full Version : " I Think I'm Getting The Run Around On My Tires"

I recently lost my job and don't have much money to throw around.
I had my winter tires still on the car and wanted to take them off. My summer wheels had were bare and the tires i had, had major camber wear they would only be good for a few months of driving and not to great in the rain for sure.

I managed to cave in and spend the money to have the tires and wheels put together. I asked them to just reverse the tires and put the camber wear on the outside of the wheel. I drove the car home and looked around the car to check out the work when I noticed they didn't follow my instructions. They mounted the wheels as follows:

FR- camber wear in <0
FL- camber wear out <0
RR- camber wear out >0
LR- camber wear in >0

The small end of the <, > indicated were the camber wear is.
My question to you is, will this affect the driving of the car? The car seams to plow making left hand turns and drive exceptable making right hand turns, is this in my head?. I'm also getting huge wheel shake under high speed braking, to the point of barely being able to hold the wheel. I went back to the tire shop and they said that they did this on purpose and that i wouldn't be able to drive the car the way i wanted the tires put on.
They say that it shouldn't make a difference anyway. I'm just trying to get the truth.
Any info would be more than greatly appreciated. Sorry about the letter.
Thanks guys.

I have a short window of oppurtunity to get these tires changed. So could someone please tell me if i should get the tire shop to put the tires on the way i asked or should i just leave them the way they put them on?
I payed $80 for this 30 minute service so i just want to get the car to handle as good as possible.
any help would be greatly appreciated.
If any of the comments i have made don't make any sense please let me know.
Thanks alot.
I know i sound cheap but its only because i am jobless at the moment. Any other time i would buy new tires.

Why did the tire shop not do what you asked? Why do they feel their way is better?

You paid to have them mount and balance the tires. It sounds like they messed up the mounting, as well as the balance.

Good luck.

I don't know why they didn't listen, i asked them to do something and then i get home and notice the wheels mounted wrong and went back to complain a few days later.
They then went on to tell me that they mounted the wheels this way because they said i would have major wheel shake if they hadn't mounted them this way. I asked them why they didn't explain this the day they did the work and they had no answer.
They said that even if they switched them around it would drive terrible and most likely wouldn't change the drivability anyway due to the wear of the tires.

What should i do?

YOU are the customer!
The tire shop OWES you the work done the way you asked.
Mounting your eccesive tire wear inside is probably your best bet for longevity. I am also assuming your alignment is basically stock (not 2degrees negative around or anything).
The wheel shake (if only occuring under braking) is a brake problem. Warped rotor, seized caliper or both.

I would make the tire shop fix my tires! (Their reasoning is CRAP, They are making excuses to save face, and the extra time to do your job correctly)
