Winter tire new technology

I just purchased the NOKIAN WR tires and like the Yokohama W Drive, these are I think the only companies whose tires are designed from a new interesting perspective. They are "severe" rated winter tires that work well in the summer, obviously not as good as a summer only tire, but they are not called "all season" tires. This is interesting new technology, how they do it I don't know? They also reputedly last a very long time! Maybe the next step is a summer tire that works in the winter! Tire technology changes very quickly these days.
