It seems that Grand Bend Motorpex's on-again/off-again road course project is on again in a new form. There is a new design in proposal that uses the drag strip as the front straight. This will mean that it won't be available on weekends most of the time and that they will expect huge rental fees, but hey, it's a road course west of the Grand.

reminds me of the road course at the Sanair drag strip in Quebec except the hairpin at the end of the straight here looks much tigher. I think I can smell the brakes already.

Also sort of like Moroso in FLA. Without the snakes and gators though I hope

I hope it happens... fast... it would be nice to drive less than 3 hours to get to a track...

Nice to see signs of something NEW amidst the recent "recession", with existing businesses, etc., closing their doors and shutting down.
Doesn't look like an overly complicated track, but a fun little track nonetheless! :) Perhaps they can spare a weekend or two a year for the road course, and for an attractive price?

they better put in a chicane 2/3 down the front straight or they will have a pile of metal at the end of that straight on the first lap. :D

There will never be road racing on this track. They're intended use is just testing/hpde.

The layouts show a short configuration that does not use the drag strip.

Okay, someone call the number and get some facts.
I would but it'll be a couple of months before I have time (unless I give up posting on the forums:eek: )

The price of paving has risen recently with the increase in oil prices last year. They are waiting for the paving companies to come in line with current oil prices as this will save a few hundred thousand dollars. I spoke with them at the London show, the intent is for track days and drivers ed as the drag strip is booked almost every weekend. They are also concerned that they would not be able to run a CASC race event as the track may not meet some runoff area specifications for FIA insurance. I hope they get it done.

Kart track maybe.
Too bad they couldn't have a sweeper at the end of the straight.

A friend of mines family owns a portion of the Motorplex. He's been talking to me about it a little bit to gauge interest. I said go for it why not? It looks to be the entire drag strip both the 1/4 and the slowdown portion of it so what's that like a 1/2 mile long? It looks a lot like Fuji speedway. I assume that's the return road part after the hairpin. Most of that course is all ready paved if I remember right.

That was the justification given to me for the layout. It's just some minor work at the corners and a new top coat of asphalt.
