I've had the same thing happen to me twice in the last 3 months!
The first time, like you Andrew, I didn't notice until I very nearly lost a wheel on the highway. The only reason I caught it in time the second time around is because I've been so paranoid recently. I find myself obsessing over it now and it's driving me nuts!! :(
Short of putting more locks on the wheels (which I'm not too fond of doing), does anyone have any suggestions? Maybe from now on I just eat, sleep and work out of my car!!!! ;)

suck it up Daniel... you've got 4 drive-wheels! You'd be FINE!!! ;)
There was a WRC event last year... Germany I think... where the subie only had the hub and some ""garden weasel" spokes on the pass. rear wheel!!! Kept going.... those subie's are cool!!!
try 5 different (or 20 different) lock-nuts... that'll slow them down!!!

I guess some things NEVER change...
Just like the ancient Chinese proverb:
Beware of man in dark clothing wielding tire-iron
Well... something like that.
