Yeah, don't I wish (http://www.vwvortex.com/news/02_01/02_27/geneva_01/veyron/engine_lrg.shtml).
Unreal... a supposedly mild, supposedly reliable 1000hp motor in a supercar. Cool. :D
but look at the little wind bag turbos it has.....t2's mabey....
looks a bit heavy and complex....try coordinating 4 turbos with wastegates...good luck..
how bout an nice inline 6....with one big t4....1 wastegate.....nice and simple.....and lots of power
that engine looks huge...and heavy....only buggati would come up with a beast like that...mabey lamborgini too...but look at thier engine in the diablo..500hp from a 12cyl....

I think they were looking for a broad torque band to go with the power, not the peaky, abrupt power of a small inline six and large turbo.
This motor should make excellent torque off boost.
However, I agree that it is needlessly complex. But it's a supercar engine, so it's to be expected.
Lou Custodio's 625ci V8 makes 925hp naturally aspirated, with 790lb/ft of torque to go with it. Detune to 700hp and put in a small single turbo, and you could do 1000hp dead reliable, not all that heavy (500# or so with the aluminum block) and insanely strong on, or off, boost.
But still, that Bugatti is a sweet looking thing. And that's probably its main attraction. I wonder what it makes before boost kicks in. I'm curious.

I just realized that with four turbos, big linear torque must be their top priority with that motor, not outright power.
car manufacturers mostly use little wind bag turbos...because they spool up quick, and give the impression that the engine has power....case in point nissan 300zx, eagle talon, rx7.....only the 911 turbo does a good job with proper turbo sizing.....
put in this way.....the compressor from my turbo is used on a navistar deisel which i think has 6.9l displacement.....why...it can move alot of air efficiently.......at a low temperature...between a t3 compressor and my t4 the spool up differance is .5 sec......
those talons with the stock turbos...yeah they spool up quick....but once you reach 15psi and above they become very heat innefficient.....thus a larger turbo should be used instead of using silly boost on those 16g turbos
i would say customers want real raw power..that keeps on pulling.....the spool up differance (less than 1sec from a t2 to a t4) does not make up for the lack of power....
and 16cyl.....come on...holy parts that could break....
it does look neat though...i think mostly from being shiny :)

Those snails aren't very big, for sure. Check out the valvetrain setup that looks like it's a bolt-on.
It looks neat. Performance will obviously be incredible, no matter whether we agree with the concept or not... :)
i agree...the performance would be mindblowing...you would have to have mario the meachanic in the car with you to keep it going probably....
the valve train would be nuts....can you imagine the cams? or the crank
it looks long...you would need a huge engine bay to put that puppy in...

Is that the motor that's going in this car?
