hello to every one.
this my first time here. i'm planing on doing Solo1 next year, i guess it is too late for this year. so will do Solo2 & some laping for the rest of season. i have 2003 225TT, 18"wheels & body kit,
planing on chipping it & exhaust in near future, other wise all stock. ultimatly would like to have Race only car, but after i get some expirience and $$$. here is my Q?
how to start, what class, is my car O.K. for Solo1, is it "safe"?
any other advise would help.
thank you in advance.
Alex.
Ps; i love DOBErmans.
um, what is a 225TT? Is that an Audi TT with 225 horsepower or something? Give me some more details on your car and I can give you an accurate classification for Solo 1.
And btw, it's never too late to try this year. There's still 4 events left (two weekends) and we always welcome newcomers who want to give the series a try for the first time by allowing them to register at the track for $110 plus a nominal fee of $10 for a temporary race license (good for one weekend). You don't need to be a member of a CASC-affiliated club to take advantage of this deal either, but if you come back for more you will have to buy a full basic race license and join a CASC-affiliated club. Contact the series Registrar, Rob McAuley, for more details at soloontario@cogeco.ca
Cheers,
Dave

Hi there!
First off, it's not too late for this year. There are stil 4 events left so you could definitely still come out for 1 or all 4.
First thing is to check out the Solo 1 web site at http://www.wiredmotorsports.com/soloontario/so-solo1.asp for all the rules, classes, etc.
The rulebook shows your stock car to be in either the GT3 or GT4 class - I'm not too familiar with the TTs so I can't really tell which specific model you have. There's a nice variety of interesting cars that you could compete in in those classes; anything from a Acura RSX, to a BMW 3 series, to a VW GTI.
Modifying your car will bump you into higher classes where the competition is tougher so choose your mods carefully. Definitely have a read through the rulebook to figure all that out.
As for being safe, I think Solo 1 is probably the safest way to get on the track at speed. That's not to say that things don't happen, but we mitigate the risks by assigning coaches to new drivers, having marshals on the track, having fire extinguishers on hand at each station and having an ambulance always on standby.
Definitely do a search on this message board since there have been similar questions posted in the past and if you have questions, please post them. The Solo community is pretty tight knit and very helpful.
PS. I love Labs

It is :Audi TT 2003 225hp Coupe. 18"performansce tires option & body kit, rear spoiler stock as everything else.
next event is on Aug 24 at Mosport?
Dobe, thanks for the info. Your car starts in GT3 with a overall Performance Index (PI) of 68.7%, meaning you could use a bolt-on upgrade worth 1 PIP (performance index point) before getting bumped up to GT2 (which covers cars in the 70-74.9% range). As it is, it sounds like your car is totally stock (the upgrades wheels, tires and body kit are all 'free' mods for Solo 1) so you would be competing in GT3 with me, Crazy Steve in his Omni GLH (I mean crazy in the most endearing of ways...he's a great guy!), and many more. It's a big class, so you'll have lots of cars to compare your times with.
The next weekend is indeed August 23/24 at Cayuga.
Cheers,
Dave

You should come out to 3 events this year - that way you retain your novice status for next year, and are elegible for more awards!
The next 2 events are at the Toronto Motorsport Park (in Cayuga), and the last 2 events are at Shannonville September 20/21. All the tracks are great.
You can talk to the others about what mods affect performance the most, and set your upgrade plans accordingly for next year.
I was instructing at a Porsche event last weekend, and my student had an Audi TT with the twin intercoolers. It was an awesome car. He swapped the chip at the event, and had a roof rack to bring track tires to the event.
As he put it, the 4wd makes it interesting to run: "It understeers below 80km/hr and oversteers over 120km/hr." Sounds like fun.

Yup. Every new driver. Just make sure you tell the organizer that you're new and are looking for a coach.
Oh, BTW, we forgot to mention that there's a Solo 1 school held every year so you might want to keep an eye out for that come next spring.
hope to see you at the next event Dave is the fast guy in the class but with a car like that you may well give him a run for his money oh and Dave CRAZY fits
see ya
