Now I just wanna keep doing it! :D

So...anyone else a VW Driver here? ;)

I think there is another VW around here somewhere...

I think it's a beatle, and rumor has it, it sounds like a blow torch :)

I'm working on a 1970 Beetle for Solo1.
I'm going to check out an Subaru EJ25 next week, that should give it a bit more power than the Single Port 1600 that was in there... :D

^ That would be interesting. How are you going to mount the engine? If you use the Subaru transmission along with the engine, wouldn't the transmission be turning the other way?

Hey Mark;
Yes I *am* hooked! I did the WOSCA event last weekend and although I wasn't the fastest there, I had a LOT of fun and learned some more technique. I also didn't hit any cones this time! :)

I just have to make my CL faster somehow; wanna trade cars?? ;) :p

Hey I was looking at the results and had to laugh that a rookie was one of the only people to run cone free all day. Good job.

B6TFestiva, sorry for the late reply, hadn't checked the board in a while.

Anyway, there are several companies that make adapters to hook up the engine to the original tranny.
The tranny will probably not last very long (the original engine made about 40hp), but I'm planning on beefing it up later.

Yeah... I know all too well what happens when you couple a torquey engine to a transmission designed for about 1/4th the power...

*thinks about pile of blown Festiva transmissions laying in garage*

Isn't there an easier way to make a Air-cooled Bug fast? I thought there was like an unlimited supply of crate engines, and other crap like that for the Bug...

If you need a tranny problem solved call Jamie:
http://www.housemanautosport.com/

You name it he can do it... and he's in London.

B6TFestiva,

You can soup up the original engine, or go to a TypeIV engine (Bus and porsche engines).

You can make the type I engines pretty quick, but reliability suffers.
Right now there is a big 'movement' towards typeIV engines, but I did some calculations and as it turns out it's way cheaper to put a Sube engine in it.

The EJ25 has 165 HP stock, in order to build/get a TIV or Type I with that amount of HP you are looking at atleast 3500 dollar (to start).

Hey don't knock the potential of the Bug engine. There is lots you can do with it without having to change the entire tranny etc.
You should come up to Grand Bend this weekend and see a 600HP VW powered dragster go down the track ;)
So there *are* great possibilities with the old horizontally opposed VW 4-banger :D
