Does anyone know where these tires are available locally? I see that the Tire Rack has them but would rather not buy from the States unless I have to. All the local tire shops (North Bay) give me a confused look when I ask about them. Anyone in Southern Ontario with a source?

Thanks
Erik

www.tires23.com ask for Billy.

They may still have some RE01R left for great prices.

Toyo R1R's are now available in Canada.. Those are called "cheater tires" due to the compound that's being used. It would provide a great alternative.

what do you mean by "cheater tires"?

Their not really cheater since to appear to be more expensive than the R888. LOL

He probably means they are as close to an R-comp you'll get without being an R-comp.

Tirecraft didn't have pricing on the R1R's, but Talon did

Maddog is close, it basically implies that the tires are basically a wolf in sheeps clothing.

When the first Falken Azenis came out (RT-215) they were first thought of as a cheater tire, as they performed close to or better than the R-comps of the day.

In the USA where there is a real "street tire" classes, there were certain tires from manufacturers which performed better than the normal UHP tire, these were called cheater tires.

The R1R was classified as one of those "better performing" street tires.

Yes, they are available from the SPDA sponsor, and you can use your contingency coupons towards the purchase of those tires since you're a SPDA member.

Hope this helps.

Thanks guys. Tires were ordered yesterday and should be avaliable early in May. Tires 23 came through no problem. Hopefully they're here before the tenth so I can run on some decent tires for the first TLMC event.

Is this your first year? If so, may I recommend the sponsor tire aka Toyo R888's, you'll get 40% off the tire if you're series registered, otherwise it's 35% off and still a good deal.

Hey Joe,

What dealer do I need to call to get a price with these discounts for the R888's?

Thanks

Any toyo racing dealer, you'll need to sign up and get your toyoracing number first by going to the http://www.teamtoyo.ca/Registration/registration_racer.asp

Once you get your number, then you can click on my signature for our preference on where you should get your tires.. Muahahah.

i dont think your tire size has anything to do with being able to do burnouts... you cant do them anyway?

I don't think you'll find too many track tires that have a huge sidewall at a 14 inch diameter. Track and Autoslalom require footprint control which means stiffer sidewall, lower profile. This cross section helps in increasing feel and increasing cornering grip while sacrificing all out acceleration.

For 14 inch tires that are greater than 24" you'll have to go to a drag type of tire. Soft sidewall so that the patch can "oval" out to aid in acceleration. But these tires are aweful for any type of cornering.

Hoosiers may have something for you, but I don't think they will be DOT.

Or, you might try to upgrade to 15" or 16" rims, there are more choices of wide tires in those sizes.

Hope this helps.
