I spend too much time thinking.
Stupid idea #500
If the main reason that NOS gives you an increase in power is that it super cools your intake charge, then, if I run my N/A intake air through an intercooler which is enclosed in an insulated box and fill this box with dry ice, I should receive NOS like power increases. This set up would be cheaper and longer lasting than NOS. It should last long enough for a solo1 run and should be legal until they outlaw it or my pistons develop holes, whichever comes first.

No, that's not it. However, it really does improve power... and more than that, it can do incredible things for turbo or super charging.

sorry....you got it wrong.....the real reason why NOS produces power is the extra oxygen that it has....thus it allows you to burn more fuel.....the cooling effect is secondary.....and the third effect is the buffering the nitrogen has on the combustion process...i have a 70 shot direct port computer controlled system on my car...and you are correct my 10lb bottle will get me 12 good runs in the 1/4 mile...which works out to aprrox 3 min total on the bottle...for 60 bucks!!!!...not too cost effective..

for every 10 deg drop in temp you can expect to gain 1% more engine power...

why use dry ice... why not liqued nitrogen.....it is 3 bucks a litre.....just remember...however you increase the density of the air charge...the air fuel ratio must be adjusted...whether turbos or nos or dry ice is used.....so you cannot really get around it at all....now a more effective system is a water spray system that sprays water into your intake in a mist...this has a great cooling effect and also prevents detonation....

or come to the conclusion like i did...and stop messing around with NOS..and headers..and intakes....and put a turbo in.. :)

NOS does cool turbo charges and does cool induction.

100% for sure it cools the intake charge down...probably to -50 to -70, but most of the power is from the oxygen that is present in the NO2...then from the increased density of the aircharge due to the extreme cold

mabey a 80% 20% split or 90% 10% mabey a closer figure

you should see the NOS runners after a run....they are iced up and smoking from frost due to the cold... its neat

mabey he could find the cheapest non flammible liqued gas, and use that? in any case more fuel will still have to be added...regardless...

I have a seemingly inexhaustible supply of methane, if that's of any help anyone

mabey you could sit in the passenger seat, and he could hook a tube up to you....like a turbo boost :)

A couple of my import buddies use a Co2 Fire extingusier to freeze their intakes and Intercoolers...

Lots of drag racers use a good old bag of ice on the intake to cool the charge down

i sometimes use ice as well, bout 1/2hr before the drag, leave a bag of regular ice on the intake manifold....just don't idle your car too long or it will just heat up again.. it is really more of a pain than anything

forced induction is the only way to go...i have messed around with NOS long enough
