Had a good time at this event - pics to follow. Rained a bit, which allowed me to practice wet weather techniques! A lot of awesome cars : 2 Superformance Cobras, 3 Z06's, a C5, 2 M3 Bimmers, Shelby Lancer, several Porsches, Russ and Mohammed with their Mustangs, a race-prepped Mustang, supercharged 240Z, etc., etc. Well worth the $$ - lots of time on track. They hired 2 guys from TMP to act as flagmen - a waste of $$ in my opinion. Only bummer : Mohamed left early after overheating, returning a few minutes later to say he'd been hit with a $320 ticket by the local OPP just after leaving the track. They had an team set up that looked all over his car, hit him for a lack of a "charcoal canister" - what's that? He'll fight it, I'm sure. Just a heads up for you guys running cat-less or other mods (not that ANY of us does, right???) and planning to come out next weekend. The Apex event runs today too. Check them out at the Apex Performance website.

The OPP pulled me over Sunday morning on Hwy 56 on my way to the track. There were about eight other cars already pulled over in this parking lot, mostly modified *****s, so I figured they were doing vehicle safety and emmissions checks like we heard about on Saturday. I parked, immediately popped the hood, and walked directly to an officer. I asked if I could get checked out first, as I had an event to get to. I think taking the initiative like that helped, because as we were walking back to the car, he asked if it was all stock, I said yes, no changes at all. He looked at it for approximately 0.5 seconds and said OK to go!. Later on at the drag strip, Chris P. and I saw a heavily modifed Chevette with a 350 and mega wide tires and two tickets proudly displayed in the window: $55 for failing to provide proof of insurance (dumb a$$), and $320 for emissions! Expensive day!
I have mixed feelings about the topic. If you're going to drive on the street, shouldn't your car be street legal? Nevertheless, running checks right at the track may not be the smartest approach.
There was a Ferrari 348 there on Sunday, but the driver was reluctant to push it hard, and given the cost of reapirs, I don't really blame him.
Sunday was a nice day, except I used up my car on Saturday. Rear brakes down to the backing, front pads used up about 60% (were just put on Saturday morning!), and corded a tire. I decided not to run.
I ran into brake fluid leaks on the way home and broke the banjo bolt trying to fix the leak. Thankfully Chris and John P. saw me and pulled over to help. Thanks a bunch guys, I really appreciate it. Next time I offer to buy dinner, I'll try not to be $0.18 short!
Made it home OK. Whew! Some days you get the bear, and some days the bear gets you!

if you want to stop emmissions issues...stop burning coal for power....
the few modified cars with no emmissions are a drop in the bucket and a waste of resources trying to enforce...

Especially since commercial trucks, busses, and SUVs have a MUCH more relaxed limit on emmisisons.

...and all those smelly imported British cars where cats were not mandatotory until 1989.
Im actually dying to get pulled over for an inspection. "Come on officer you tell me what should and shouldnt be there!"
exactly, Russ! I find it laughable that a police officer is supposed to be able to identify modifications made to a car when much of what can be done is completely out of view (ie. internal engine mods, ECU chipping, etc). But worse than that are the "loud muffler" tickets they're giving out to cars without doing any sort of dB test and without any actually dB limits being legally set (there are NO dB limits in Ontario at this time). There's just no way any of our cars are louder than a Harley, yet guys like Moose have had multiple "loud muffer" tickets simply because the cops are gunning for souped up Hondas and the like. Meanwhile, I could be cruising around in my Dad's old 1975 Corvette, getting 8 mpg, polluting like a gypsy hooker, and the cops wouldn't even look twice at me. All thanks to movies like Fast & the Furious and the pinheads out there street racing.
