I am looking to buy a used SA2000 rating helment, expires end of 2010. Will this be good for autocross and lapping day events? No wheel to wheel or roll cage in my car. Can I continue to use this after 2010 expiry date for local autocross and lapping days??

Thanks for you input.

A - Used helmets is a general no-no. You never know for certain if it's ever been dropped or otherwise compromised.

B - It had better be pretty cheap to justify using it for two years only.

C - Perfectly legal for anything that CASC sanctions (as far as I know) as long as you have a closed car (open wheel race car require full face helmets).

For a longer term solution an M2005 shouldn't cost more than $150 at the entry level (often a good deal cheaper than that) and is legal for autoslalom and lapping and will be good till 2015, or the Chinese corporate take over of North American whichever comes first.

If the car is caged, or has a roll bar, does the helmet not have to be SA rated?

SA rating is required for roll cages, but not roll bars. When properly installed, a driver's helmet shouldn't hit the roll hoop of a roll bar. Thus, the lower helmet requirement.

I have a question about helmets that is not really answered in the rulebook, would an DOT ECE rated helmet be at all acceptable, or not?

It is answered by the rule book. If the rule book doesn't say that it is legal, then it is illegal. First rule of the rule book actually.

Hey I got this same helmet from Royal Distributings no taxes sale (wich is on right now) just yesterday. Its the CL-15 right? Well the sticker that was on the visor said it was SNELL2005 but the back of the helmet just says "SNELL Approved". I cant find any other tags inside that say anything about the SNELL rating.

So if my helmet gets checked at the track how will they know if its SNELL 2000 or 2005?

Snell stickers are usually inside the helmet somewhere underneath the foam padding (on my Bieffe it's in the crown). The Snell approval sticker will show "M" or "SA" and the year of design approval (not year of manufacture), e.g. "M2000," "SA2005" and a Snell approval note to the effect that "a model/specimen of this helmet has been approved ..." or similar plus a serial number. As for whether you need an M or SA helmet, check with your series regulations.

Thanks John! I found my sticker under the padding above and behind where my left ear would go.

Mike the CL-15 is going for $149 no taxes right now. Tinted visors are $35. And the Snell rating on this helmet is M2005 not SA.

For anyone looking for a cheep SNELL 2005 they also had some VOX helmets out in the tent that were $74. But they fit small. Im usualy a medium but I had to go up to a large because I almost lost an ear taking off the medium. This is at the Innisfill location.

Guys; Went to GPBikes yesterday, and picked up the HJC CL-15 full face helmet. I just got the gloss white, on sale for $119.00 + tax. They still have a few more available, but this price was just for th plain colours, no graphics. Its a M2005 rating helmet.
