Well, i've had a few people tell me they don't like them.

I just got them and I think they're amazing.

Quite, comfortable ride and very good performance. Never a problem yet.

I usually drive safe and sane. Once in a while I like to give the twisties a go. The ES 100s seem to be the perfect tire as they are quite, ride well and then deliver the goods for high speed agressive cornering. The price is right, the look is right, it all adds up, they do everything very well. I really do like the tires. They are well suited to the Miata.

Long term Yoko owner, these were lower priced in relation to the AVS sport. Miata is lite and the tires took a while to wear in the mold release layer, so there were some slippery corners at the start which made me skeptical. After a few weeks, the tires came on and they are much better than the OEM 14s W/R/T road feel and noise. These tires could be a bit lighter, unfortunately the BBS RZ wheels and these tires are considerably heavier than a stock set up which adversely affects the M1 Miatas coveted performance charactistics.

These tires are supposed to compare with the Khumo 712s, I just removed the 712s. These do not compare at all. The Yokohammas are much, much better. Actually, They should not be used in the same sentence. Thanks JR

Very good tires for the money. Very good in the dry, and i have lots of confidence in the wet. I drive very hard and cornering is excellent...i take 90 degree right hand turns in the dry at 20-30. Even better after they warm up. I will buy these tires again, if i dont find any problems. No experience in snow or off road.

Bought these tires with some reservation as I dont consider Yokohama a "brand name" tire, but glad I followed Tireracks recommendation. I held off writing review until I had at least 5000 miles experience. I really like these tires. Dry/wet traction and cornering are truly impressive for the money spent. My one worry was wear, but they are holding up fine. At 7500 miles, still quiet, balanced, and a comfortable ride. My only complaint is that they ride rough below 40F, and below 20 degrees never warm up. Useless in snow, my Miata stays in the garage if its white outside. But on warm sunny days, you can take these tires to the limit with little squeal and a predictable breakaway. Fantastic street tires, I just ordered a set of Yokohamas (Avid 4s) for my Honda CRV because of the fun Im having with the EVS 100s. Thanks Tirerack.

Excellent tires, I just had a set of Khumo 712s that are not even worn out yet but I ditched because I hated them. The Yokos are a world apart, and cheap too!! Thanks JR

I love these tires! I bought them in Southern California while working there, and abused them on canyon roads for 3 months (8000 miles). Now Im back in Kansas City, driving 50+ miles a day and they are still going. 15K miles they still handle the water well and stick on dry pavement better than most, and did I mention quite, which is supprising for a 45 series tire. I expect to get 20-22K from them...thats more than anyother tire has lasted on this car.

The Yokohamas AVS ES-100s were replacements for OEM Bridgestone Turanzas. I hated the Bridgestones from Day 1 because they were noisy & rode harshly. They also tracked every rut & depression in the pavement, demanding constant steering corrections. The Yokohamas are far superior with respect to ride comfort & noise levels and track much straighter on poor roads. The ride degrades somewhat in colder temperatures (below 45 degrees F) as the tire stiffens. They corner at least as well as the Bridgestones and exhibit predictable breakaway. Best of all, they are absolutely vibration free at all speeds (I paid extra to have them force balanced - well worth it). Our Miata is much more fun and relaxing to drive with the Yokohamas, especially on long trips. I dont plan to run them in snow since I have winter tires on another set of rims. I havent driven them much on wet roads, but no problems so far. Maple Grove Tire & Auto mounted & balanced the tires for me. I was very satisfied with their service.

These tires replaced Falken Azenis on my Miata, now that I have V700s to autocross on. While the Azenis have astounding grip and steering response for a street tire, the downsides are a rougher-than-average ride (due to the heavy tire and stiff sidewall), shorter tread life, and lots of annoying hum when worn past halfway. For a street/autox tire, its just about perfect. The ES100 is just about perfect for a high-performance street-only tire. Lots of grip, especially in the rain, decent steering response, quiet and comfortable for commuting, and it seems like they will last for a while. Certainly there are grippier tires, but none at this price point with the ES100s longevity and comfort.

Probably some of the best tires Ive ever had on any car. Extremely good in the rain and dry in go, stop, and turn. Very quiet with excellent treadwear considering the abuse they take. An abomination in the snow. Passable, but avoid it if at all possible. I will continue to buy these for all of my cars as long as they make them.

The OEM Bridgestones were a big disappointment. They were rated "A" for traction and 140 for mileage. At 11.5k miles, most of which was highway, but included running four autocross events, they were shot. I replaced them with Yokohama AVS ES100s purchased through TireRack. Even in a relatively few miles the difference is dramatic. I wouldnt recommend replacing the OEM Turanzas with this same tire which is more expensive than many other options.

This was my first chance to pick my own tires. I usually just go with what was on the car. I bought the Miata used with 36K on the origional tires not only were they worn, they were old. Putting the AVS-ES100s on was a night and day difference. If you read Miata.net, you will see my praise for this tire. For the price, they cant be beat. Also, Tire Rack did a great job in the sales process, there are other places out there to purchase tires, but one one has the service these guys do. No one.

“I don’t like Yokohama tires. They are freeway loud, squeal-like-a-banshee around corners, and have severely compromised grip. There cannot possibly compete with similar tires from Michelin or Dunlop”. This was my opinion 8 years ago when I ran around town in my ’85 Toyota MR2. Well, apparently Yokohama has learned from their faults. I researched these tires for about 1 month prior to purchasing them for my wife Holly’s ’96 Mazda Miata M-edition. Both www.tirerack.com and www.miataforum.com helped in many ways. After about 200 miles of running the mold-sealant off the rubber, these tires came alive! Quiet, lots of grip, predictable break when pushed too far. This is a great tire! Wonderful tread pattern. The sidewall is a little soft, but that just makes the ride that much nicer. I would have never considered Yokohama AVS ES-100 an option, but chose them even over the Bridgestone S-03. The price-to-performance ratio could not be beat. I’m happy, my wife is even happier.

As a current owner of 225/45/17 AVS tires, I can say these are a nice evolution, although comparing a smaller size from the Audi (17's) to the Miata (15's)and the ES100 have a slightly different tread design than the standard AVS. I found that they were a bit heavier than expected (compared to Toyo T-1S) but have a nice quality (look, ride, sound) to them. The main reason I purchased was because I am a long standing Yok fan, and will continue to consider Yokohama for future purchases. (From 'The Rack', of course!!) This tire seems very similar to the Bridgestone Potenza S-03 at a considerable cost dfference. many colleagues in BMW CCA also like this tire and we have struck up conversations at driving events in the Midwest USA regarding the tires performance. With the Miata, I find these tires are a bit difficult in the rain, but I tend to throttle oversteer anyway so that may be an unfair assessment. For the price, these tires are very much worth it!!

I have some limited experience with these tires. In a word they're great! I bought the 205/50-15 V rated (W or Z rated not available in this size) back in April. I only had them for 2 months on my 1.6EL before I traded up to an '03 RSX. My previous tires were Toyo FZ4's. My driving style is pretty aggressive (always looking for a fast corner).

1.6EL Suspension mods:
Eibach pro kit springs
Koni yellow adj. shocks (stiffest rear - mid stiff front)
Stock 23mm front sway bar
19mm Susp. Tech rear sway bar
No camber adjustments
Street tire pressure 34 lbs all around
Never used in Solo II or on the track

My ratings:
dry grip - excellent
wet grip - very good
steering response - excellent
cornering - very good
ride - very good
quietness - excellent
durability - ?, but tread wear rating is 280 and better than most ultrahigh performance tires
appearance - good (my FZ4's looked meaner with bigger shoulder blocks, the ES100 shouldder blocks are progressively rounded - supposed to improve the contact patch)

For the price these tires are simply the best. I think the Kuhmo Ecsta MX come close, but they are more expensive. I will likely buy a set for street use on my RSX.

Hope this helps.

Dave: I put a set of these (14") on my 4 door auto 'teg. I like them, though I don't think the suspension on the car really lets me enjoy them enough. They feel pretty good in the rain though and the car doesn't seem to sway left and right in the hard wind like it used to, course we're comparing these to 3-4 year old allseasons. I'll have a set of 195-14's barely used for sale pretty darn quick (within weeks, could deal earlier) actually since I won't be able to use them on the Integra's replacement.

Looked at ALL the tests and reviews from Tire rack and went with Bridgestone RE 750's. The soft turn in on the Yoks turned me off.
After a few thou klicks on the Potenza's --I love them !! Crisp turn in -- no noise , even in hard cornering and very-very good in the wet. Other than Bridgestone's SO3's [more expensive and greater wear but better performance] these are the best Ultra High Performance tires I have used. IMHO they are better than the RE 010's that came with the Type R Integra.

Finboy - you sure get your knickers in a twist easily!! I won a set of Yoks at a Solo 1 event and was going to get the ES100's but after much research went for the RE750's and I'm am happy I did!
Just giving you some alternative's --The sharing of first hand experiences is what forums like this are about --Right ?
If you wade through all the tests-reviews-surveys and comparisons of ultra high performance tires, you will find that the soft turn in on the Yoks comes up again and again. Do your own research and you may or may not come up with the same conclusion as I did. -- Sorry to intrude on 'YOUR' thread. --It will not happen again.
