Hello everybody!
I recently moved in Ontario from South Carolina, USA where I participated at five autocross events and I would like to continue to do so here.
I did a lot of searching about autoslalom in Canada and read the rules but I'm still confused about a few things.
It looks like there are four categories (stock, SS, SP, Modified) to compete in and no street tire class, right? If that's the case, and from what I've read in the regulations, cars in the stock category run on street tire since the r-compound are restricted, correct? Is there a minimum limit on the treadwear rating like 200 or something?
I've seen the schedule for CASC-OR Mobil 1 but it looks like different clubs organize different events. I'm a bit confused about this because in South Carolina they had one club that held 8-9 events a year across the state and at the end of the year if one participated to at least five events he/she would be considered for championship points in their respective class. So my question is which championship is important to follow and gets the most people at the events?
thanks!

Welcome!
Stock class allows you to run R-comps. You have two preperation points and it's up to you how you use them. Most people use points for R's and a roll bar.
The CASC-OR Mobil 1 Championship is our version of the National Tours but only in Ontario...I guess it would be like a State Tour. :) The Championship is intended to be the 'step up' from the club events. The events are hosted by the clubs, so CASC-OR itself does not generally organise an event. The CASC-OR series has it's own official that handle items such as timing, scrutineering, etc. but the hosting club handles the venue, etc. The idea is to visit different venues which offer different course characteristics in addition to a higher prep/competition level. You would need to enter this series to compete for "Ontario Champion" status.
Club events: Instead of the region holding the events like SCCA in the US, we have multiple clubs that host their own autoslalom series'. These generally have simpler rule sets with fewer classes and function similar to 'SCCA Region' events where they can make their own classing as suits their competitor draw. The competition can also get pretty high at the club events.
I don't usually run the club events and stick with the Championship, however, I will be at the TLMC event today/tomorrow for some practice. Also, some of use make it to SCCA Tour events, with the closest being Finger Lakes @ SEAD. Let me know if you are interested in heading down with us, it's only about 4hrs drive.

What car are you in? Hope to see you out there!
That was very good info! So R-compounds in the stock class with preparation points which are deducted from the final time? Is it like a PAX index? And if you put in balance the two modifications that you mentioned with the two points deducted is it worth it to run with the mods in order to be competitive?
The CASC-OR Mobil 1 Championship is the one were the battle is :) I would think that this one would have the most participants. I have a stock 2003 Focus SVT and I'll be in the GS class which I hope it has a lot of cars in it. It's no fun running against only a car or two.
Did the two events in the championship, which were school events, count for points?
I noticed from the links that you gave me that they have different classes and it looks like their venues is actually only one, right? They don't go around Ontario like the championship does.
I would have liked to go to the SCCA events but since I'm a Romanian citizen I'll need a visa to get in the US and that's a bit difficult to get right now but thanks for the invite.
Is there a list somewhere with the clubs that operate around Mississauga or the ones you send me are pretty much it?
sorry for the multitude of questions:)

To be competitive in Stock class you will need R comps. There is no difference in you PAX with or without R's. There should be decent competition in GS.

In Stock class you're allowed 2 prep points to use for whatever mod you chose. If you use more than 2 prep points you move up to Super Stock which has a limit of 6 prep points. If you use more than 6 prep points you move to Street Prepared. The classing lets you pick what mods you want to do to make your car more competitive. Some cars might not need to change anti-roll bars and can use one of their points for something else.
I think the three clubs I listed are the main 'local' clubs, but there's also the Toronto F-body club, the BMW Trillium club, but I don't know much about them. If I missed anybody, maybe their club reps. will post something.

So the points are "free". Even if I use them it won't count against me in the final standings. That's actually much better than the SCCA system that was very limited in the stock class. Thanks everyone!

I think I figured it out now. I've spent more time on Solo 2 website and all the clubs are listed there including the schedule for the whole year http://solo2.casc.on.ca/schedule/schedule.php

The schedule you are "linking" to only shows the regional events for 2009.
It doesn't show any of the many, many club events.

They do show up for me in blue and the regional in red unless I'm missing something. I just clicked on the first option at the Schedule tab

That looks like last year's schedule. This year's club dates haven't been added to the 2009 section. But the links that Tashko posted should help you out, in terms of the club's schedules.

Club directors should email Jonas and request their schedules be added. I find his responses very timely when you actually ask.
