Why is the Mazdaspeed 3 in B Stock Plus? I thought only cars with 2.0L engines and less are allowed or am I wrong?
It's bad enough for me that the Cobalt SS is in this class while at the regionals is classed as a D stock while the SVT is GS. Not complaining, just saying.

Looks like there will be some great class battles this year!

It is loosely figured on power to weight ratio and handling characteristics.
That is precisely why they are in the PLUS class along with you in your factory tuner car.
I believe our class book as listed talks about all Turbo models as being "up" classed, but again we consider my first statement. For example it is not fair to put a Firefly Turbo or Supercharged MR2 up a class considering performance numbers so they are exempt. At one time the Mazdspeed (Turbo) Miata was up classed but the new Miata makes more HP without the Turbo and handles about the same so we dropped them back down.
We try to keep things simple, hence the simple and not too many classes with not enough cars in them.
C'est la vie
I would be happy to take your car for a couple of runs after the next event to verify correct classification.

What do you mean by this? I'm not saying that the SVT doesn't belong there but it's obviously that is competing against better, newer cars but like you said c'est la vie! I just read the rules which said 2.0L max.
Plus, it's not like I'm such a good driver myself to not care :D
Actually I wouldn't mind if you would drive it to see what the car can and I can't :)

Out of those cars you previously mentioned - I (20 years experience and a room full of trophies) would chose the SVT as the most competitive.

I will enjoy it thoroughly, thanks

Wow B Mod was pretty small of a class this event. I wish i could have made it. I'll be there next one so at least the class will be 4 deep.

that speaks highly of the car, thank you, but I hope you know that it doesn't have a LSD while most of the new cars do and that's why I thought it would be outclassed. I'm really curious now to see what time can you get (I did not know that you have so much experience).
see you at the next event then

^ I'm gonna hang around to see this :D
the last event in 08 derek co-drove Todd's blue celica gt-s - he beat todd in his own car by almost a second
he'll prolly get fwd ftd first time driving the car :p

if that celica is the one that was at the first event then it's very impressive cause that guy was fast anyway.
he'll have a hard time putting the ftd for fwd since I'm running all seasons on a 100.000 km suspension but we'll see.

The lack of an LSD was a huge short coming by Ford, considering that they took the time and expense to develop the car. Also, all the competitors "tuned" vehicles (at the time) had LSD.
Not to be mean or anything but the SVT wouldn't be my OAL pick for fastest B+ car but it wouldn't be far off (maybe a drive will change my mind).
Tod's Celica is a wonderful car. To bad Toyota put reverse where 1st should be (that buggered my best run for sure). I am still sorry 'bout that Tod.

Having driven a novice's Mazdaspeed 3 last year Derek, I can say it is more than competitive in the plus class.....I was 2/10's off FTD on RA1's my first run! R-compounds will benefit this car more than most due to the high hp/FWD application.

on the track is not a huge problem with sticky tires and good throttle control because it doesn't have a lot of power but at autoslalom you have to be more patient coming out of the corners since it also has a bit more body roll than others.
my choice would be a Mini Cooper S for this stock class. I'm surprised to see none of them here, in the states it was full of them at the events and they always did very good. There is only one guy who managed to beat the MINI's in G stock at nationals in the US but he's also an instructor for future racers so......
But it's possible :)

Interesting Bill (another guy with 20 years and a room of trophies :p).
I was thinking weight and high center of gravity being really big factors, as well as brute HP doesn't mean a whole lot in ACross.
OTOH I should have remembered the numbers Tong put up when he drove his base model.
Correct Benzin, Cooper S tops my list as well. Used to have a bunch, but they went away for some reason.

Would a Spec V be your 1st choice? :) We had a good battle at that event for class win.
