Heads up if you're towing your trailer anywhere in the next 24hrs... particularly if your safety isn't up to date on your truck or trailer, etc.

OPP to crackdown on commercial vehicles
The Ottawa Citizen June 17, 2009 10:01 AM

OTTAWA — The OPP will be targeting commercial vehicles in a 24-hour safety blitz to begin on Ontario roads Wednesday morning.

Operation Corridor is an annual, province-wide initiative intended to enforce, educate and promote police visibility. Police will be watching for unsafe driving, and they will work with inspectors from the transport and environment ministries to identify unsafe vehicles and those not meeting emissions standards.

"Initiatives like Operation Corridor can save lives and help prevent unnecessary injuries," said OPP Chief Superintendent Bill Grodzinski.

you mean they need a "special operation" to crack down on rusted-pedo-rape mobiles and geezer-driver-cadilacs with blown shocks?

Good thing they weren't out there Sunday night while I was driving home from Shannonville ;).

Well they might let those not wearing seatbelts or speeding go on their merry way while they concentrate on this "special operation".....

It strikes me as odd that they would be so specific about looking for unsafe driving. That's pretty much all a traffic patrol officer should be doing.
As SM has commented before though; how difficult is it to make "unsafe" driving charges stick?
They gotta start using video to catch the real dangerous people and make the charges stick.
Actually, if we all drove around filming traffic , just think what kind of driving "bloopers" vid you'd end up with.

Yes, but it doesn't take effect 'til the fall (September??). It's a ban against ALL hand-held electronic devices while driving, aka: i-Pod, cell phone, cameras, etc. Only exempt drivers are emergency response (ie: police/fire/ambulance).

Did anyone notice the MTO check that was setup at the 35/115 junction this past Sunday afternoon? I wonder if it was a coincidence that this is the route many race teams take on the way out of Mosport?

Hopefully there's no stories to tell!

I had an OPP cruiser follow me all the way from Ajax into Oshawa yesterday. I was well behaved and he left me alone. It was very obvious he wanted to follow me for a bit though - when I changed lanes, he changed lanes! :D

I don't mind seeing more cops on the roads. At least they've got better odds of catching an unsafe action take place, or seeing an unsafe vehicle, than sitting at the side of the road picking off random cars going slightly above the flow of traffic. For the most part, it keeps people in check when they're around.

is it illegal to constantly change lanes, assuming its perfectly safe?

maybe i should snake them one time, just for shits and giggles

"sir do you know why i pulled you over?"

"you were getting dizzy and wanted a break??"

I didn't mean to imply that I was constantly changing, but my first move to the left, he followed (immediately!).

Why is it that in the midst of doing an enforcement blitz, they still fail to use their signals while changing lanes??

That was Minstry of Environment, checking fishing and hunting licences. They just waved the race trailers through.

Yeah ... as soon as we say the flashing lights, had that typical sphincter tightnening feeling, until I saw the MOE signeage!
