don't know forsure but i will say Honda Tranny fluid and check your owners manual........... :p Think when dry they hold 3.5 containers. LSD shouldn't make any difference. Its pretty easy, just add until, when fluid is coming back out the intake hole then you have too much. I overfilled mine once and it popped the drivers side CV out and left puddles everywhere when i was parked. It lasted a few days like that then when i went to fix it the CV was back in place and it stoped leaking oil. Ran from april to october after. Pretty spooky!!!!

PS, you'll want to buy an honda owners manual not a helms POS.

Do you mean Haynes POS? The Helms is the factory repair manual.

Tom,
Call your local dealer and see what the Integra Type-R uses.

we all prefer the Honda MTF in our LSD-equipped trannies but I've used regular 10w30 motor oil in both my B-series and D-series LSD trannies and it works just fine as well. But if you've got a Honda dealership nearby, go with their MTF for sure.

I'd love to check to owners manual, but a trip to japan seems out of the question, since the ITR uses a helical gear LSD I don't think it would apply. In toyota RWD LSD's a additive or special fluid made for LSD's is required, thats why I thought perhaps the honda one would as well.
Thanks guys,I should have it up and ready to go by the weekend!:)

I've heard good things about GM Synchromesh fluid. Apparently there is one type that has 'Friction Modifiers' that is even better, but when I asked the parts guy at my local GM dealer he looked at me like I was an alien.

I don't have an LSD, btw, but I would like one... :)

Honda B-series Trannies need 2.2L of Oil
Honda D-series Trannies need 1.9L of Oil

Honda MTF is reccomended
10W30 non-synthetic oil is a Honda Approved substitute.

I would not use anything other than these in my Honda Trannies ... they require a specific (designed for) vicosity and "slip". Other oils such as the GM syncromesh may not provide either the appropriate viscosity or level of slip.

Honda has never specified any thing diffeerent for there LSD equiped trannies ... My Honda OE LSD tranny seems quite happy with Honda MTF ...

Note: Clutch type LSDs do require specific fluids ...

So Moose I had assumed that the oem honda lsd was a clutch type,I'm I correct?.
I read on honda-tech that some of those guys used the GM additive and said it was fine-dunno how informed those guys were however.I will try to get in the habit of keeping the fluid very fresh-likely after each lapping/solo1 day as I don't want to be known as Tom the Tranny!hada's already got a guy by that name:D

I only change my tranny fluid once a year and so far I've never blown one up...must be the driver! :p

The Honda OE LSD's are Helical ... similar to the Quaife's.

Most OE LSD's are not Clutch pack designs, because they require more maintenance due to the clutch disks wearing out. They also tend to be noisier.

I would not worry to much about he tranny fluid .... replace it once a season with Honda MTF ... and keep an eye open for leaks arround the axels seals ... if they leak, you can loose enough fluid to dry out the man bearings and ruin them.

Cheers

Thanks Moose that makes me feel better about throwing a used lsd tranny in.I was concerned about wear/fluid type etc.
I too have never broke a honda tranny, and I've tried pretty hard more than once!:D

Just an update-tranny's in and filled with honda MTL,only a spin around the parking lot but everything seems fine. Now for some dry weather, some wide 13" wheels to mount my slicks on,the new coilovers should be here next week then some testing!!:D

I've tried the Redline Synthetic tranny fluid in my ITR and it was absolute crap! Switched back to Honda MTF and has run without any problems since. You really don't need to change the tranny fluid any more than once a year (I believe Honda says every two years, but does not account for track use). Just make sure you torque the fill and drain plug bolts correctly and use new crush washers each time.

I've had a bad experience with redline products as well, rolled my ice racer and tried to top up the lost engine oil with a fresh quart of 5w30 at about -15,had to squeeze the crap out of the container!!
The whole point of running it was the low tempature pourability, never used it again.
