I was hoping that someone could interperate the rule book for me regarding engine swaps. Here is the scenario.

There was a car called the MG Metro (same parent company as the Mini like GMs subdivions) that used the same A+ engine/gear box that Mini's had. But what the manufacturer did was slap a little T2 turbo on the car as an engine option.

The rule book says I can swap motors from the same manufacturer with same basic car lay out, but would I have to swallow the 13 PIPs that come along with the "addition of a turbo" even though its stock for that swap?

I've found a nice Mini Clubman for sale that has this engine installed, and I'm thinking this may make a good car for next year.

If the turbo is unmodified and is driving the front wheels then you just plug the manufacturers HP #s and your vehicle wgt into the wgt/hp formula and work from there. The 13 PIPs are if you add a turbo or modify a stock one. As Adam will point out most street turbos are not maximised at all for power for reliability and drivability reasons; can you say " heat production"???

Thats what I thought, thanks Dave.

Now to run some numbers....

Curious out come when I run the numbers.

-Mini 1600 pound curb weight
-1275cc turbo MG Metro motor (A+) swap
-90HP
=top of T1

-Mini 1600 pound curb weight
-1275 cc norm aspirated Mini Motor (A+)
-add a T2 turbo to it
-62HP to 90HP with the turbo
= bottom of T3

Same motor at the end, but very different classification due to on method taking in the final horsepower into consideration, and the other method just taking on some PIP's.

Do I get to choose one the method I like better? (joking).
