I don't know if this is old news, but it was news to me. They finally got Porsche 959's on the road in the US.

Yay... The irony is though, they're already legal up here thanks to the exemption for 15-year-old cars from the MOT standards.

Anyone have $300 000 to spare? :D

??? no there not. You can't import a car that was never sold here new.

Sure you can. US-market cars are easy (I have one) since the vehicle standards are similar (usually you just need to add an aftermarket DTRL kit.) For cars from anywhere else it has to be at least 15 years old (no, I don't understand this logic either.)

http://www.tc.gc.ca/roadsafety/importusa/impxus_e.htm

"Vehicles manufactured for sale in countries other than Canada and the United States do not comply with the requirements of the Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Act, CANNOT be altered to comply and CANNOT be imported into Canada. The only exceptions to this rule are vehicles fifteen (15) years old or older as determined by the month and year in which the vehicle was manufactured and buses manufactured before January 1, 1971."

I've talked to some importers and apparently this means the Transport Canada safety requirements are simply waived and you can register your car like any other.
