View Full Version : Roll bar rules for next year?

So since we exercised Quebec Solo1 rules on Sunday , are they going to be that way for next year and at the shoot out ?
Im glad to see Oshawa motorsport club does have a heart and let someone run without a legal roll bar .
I should of joined their club instead of BAC , which did not let me run at a BAC event.
Lets try to be a little more consistant with the rules next year!

it could be interesting if both clubs shared the same rules, that way there might be more cross-over events like shannonville.
although presently, half the cars in your club couldn't run with LAPS because they dont have a rollbar! (even my car isnt legal right now with my rollbar removed).
it's finding a compromise between both sets of rules that wont be easy.

Rob: While I do understand your frustrations (I was in the same boat the last two years, as was John P, and even missed PAID events due to mechanical issues with the track car)... I am VERY VERY ... what's the word? PISSED OFF?.. yeah that's probably it, to hear that the organizer(s) felt they had the authority to bypass the rule book which clearly states the requirements in this situation.
Those requirements are there for a reason which while they adversely affected me, I completely agreed with.
In a "hard luck" situation I'm glad this guy got to run rather than get turned away but at the end of the day, it wasn't right.
Rob/Taylor, it's my understanding (though I didn't witness this with my own eyes) that the S2000's were swapping that red bolt-in roll bar back and forth between cars. I chatted with them about it after the event and took a picture of the roll bar and it looked to meet our rollover specifications as described in the rulebook, not to mention I was told that Joe Smiley scrutinized it and was satisfied that it was safe.
The deal was that they HAD to swap the bar back and forth, and they told me afterwards that it only took them 6 minutes to do so between runs, so my impression was that they did in fact follow through on this arrangement. If, on the other hand, Rob saw one of them on the track without the red roll bar, that's another story. If this was the case though, a protest should have been filed immediately.

Ahh I see... well if that was the case, then coo'.
Though Rob's not the first person thats mentioned this. Perhaps only for morning lapping?!
hmm, yeah it's possible they were allowed to lap without swapping the roll bar. I'm really not sure. Perhaps Rob will shed some more light on the situation for us, or maybe Dr. Dave will know the specifics since OMSC was the host club.

I believe they shared the car w/o the wing for the morning lapping sessions.
Edit: The roll bar was installed in the car w/o wing Sunday morning, before the lapping started.

As far as I know, no exception was made for Quebec cars. Sebastien went to great expense to get that roll bar installed in the days before the event and he had it checked out Saturday afternoon by the scrutineer. I don't see why anyone is complaining now, as there was absolutely no special treatment for the S2000 drivers.

Civic13: I'm only going based on Rob saying they let the guy run "without a legal roll bar" and since reading that, I've seen someone else mention they wondered why the car was out there.
If they didn't run without the bar, then who cares? I don't. Not sure what Rob is talking about then...
But as an S2000 owner, if someone was granted an exemption, I'm not happy about it.
Wish I was there to watch them run.

Im not trying to make a big deal out of it. Im not picking on the guys from Montreal , they seemed like a good bunch of people as are most car guys. If i was in Daves shoes , I would of did the same thing too. Are you guys from BAC listening?
All I noticed was The S2000 without the wing on the track during competion. I did not notice if the roll bar was swapped due to the soft top being up. I probably should of checked if the roll bar was swapped but I was out on track marsheling . During the day I was busy trying to beat a heavily modified twin turbo Porsche !
I also noticed that red roll bar did not meet the rules . No rear or forward hoops and incorrect diameter for the weight of the car. Joe Im not picking on you . You did a hell of a job on Sunday with all those new cars to tech and then run forth fastest with a mostley stock small block.
Any how the event is over , and I feel it was one of the best events all season. Congrats to the organizers!
I would like to maybe suggest for next year . Lets give competitors whose safety equipment which is not up to snuff a warning and let them race. After all this is amature motorsport.
