Quick Notes

Members present:
Terry Epp - ASN, Dave Hull - ARMS, Chuck Atkins – CASC-OR, Doug Campbell – WCMA
No Representatives from FSAQ or CACC

Quick Notes mailing list slowly coming together – email addresses for the Territories and Clubs who participate in SoloSport events. So the membership can be updated to what is happening at the National level.

PAF / PAX factors – Daniel Forest, President of FSAQ, has volunteered to crunch the numbers from the large National AutoSlalom events over the last couple of years to update the AutoSlalom factors.

2010 CAC (in Eastern Canada) and CSC - application to host are now being accepted. The final date for submission will be November 30, 2009 with the awarding of the events announced by December 15, 2009. The forms will be available online or directly from Terry Epp at rally.cars@sympatico.ca

2009 Committee Projects –
(a) Standardization of Safety Regulations (seat belts, roll over protection, etc…) for all the disciplines within SoloSport is slowly moving forward and will hopefully be completed sooner rather than later.
(b) Format standardization for all the Rule documents applicable to SoloSport is moving forward and should be completed before the end of the year.

Karts in AutoSlalom –
Was discussed at great length, including a number of issues such as those listed below:
(a) Type and number of venues that would be suitable to host karts across the country;
(b) Course design requirements;
(c) Requirement for the venue and course design to be approved by a territory appointed and trained Steward to ensure that everything meets or exceeds the safety requirements in force;
(d) Safety equipment for kart drivers;
(e) Other safety concerns with karts such as: speed, typical course speed reduction design features, non movement of automobiles when karts moving;
(f) Types of karts proposed vs kart classes used across Canada;
(g) Costs of karts as proposed and rebuild costs;
(h) Complexity of SCCA technical regulations for karts and implications for compliance issues;
(I) Past experiences with karts in AutoSlalom across the country;
(j) Separation of karting and automobiles within both the FIA (separate karting organization) and ASN Canada FIA (separate rule sets and non mixing of karts and automobiles in ASN Canada FIA Canadian motorsport);
(k) Analysis of support/non support for concept.

The committee also discussed the advanced concept that ASN Canada FIA adopt the SCCA rule set for karting in AutoSlalom. The NSC appreciates that such a concept is not a viable option.

The committee reviewed the history of karts in SoloSport and how the present ruling precluding karts from all SoloSport activities within ASN competition practices and regulations came about. The committee continues to view karts participating in AutoSlalom events as a major safety issue.

The committee also reviewed the procedure for presenting such a major change for adoption. The following procedure was outlined and reaffirmed:

1. A detailed proposal should be presented within the territories to the territorial presidents and request that they advance the proposal to the National SoloSport Committee for consideration.
2. The National SoloSport Committee, after reviewing the proposal, may request ASN Canada FIA to put the item on the annual ASN Advisory Board meeting agenda. (The 2010 meeting is in March.)

If the National Committee receives a proposal it will be reviewed, but there is no guarantee that it will be approved. If it is approved by the National Committee, there is no guarantee that the ASN Advisory Board will give it final approval.

Next conference call November 11, 2009
