Hi all,

I'm planning on running my stock 1982 Fiat X1/9 in Solo 1 next year. I used to run my race Fiat X1/9 in B-Modified in 1999 and 2000, then went off to do regional racing.

I'm somewhat confused as to how the rules work. Where does my car fit in?!? and what mods are allowed before it is no longer considered stock?!?

If I can remember correctly, a somewhat modified X1/9 used to be in C-Street prepared. It was so NOT competitive, since 74 hp doesn't keep up to some of the 185 hp cars in the same class.

Currently my car is stock with the exception of non OEM seats, and air fliter and anti-roll bar (X1/9s do not come with anti-roll bars at either end in stock form). I have a race suit, and SA helmet, somewhere I read that this can be used to offset points?!?!

Can someone point me in the right direction, there were a few mods I'd like to do to my car eventually which would include:

Coil over replacing the oe strut coils, stock strut location no camber adjustment possible.
Spherical bearings replacing all rubber suspension bushings.
Rod ends replacing the tie rods front and rear.
No engine mods.

Thanks in advance.

I don't believe we have your car in our database. If you have 3 sources of wieght and hp i'll add it and see where your car ends up. From there we can see what the modifcations do to you.

In our database we have a 82 X1/9 listed at 85hp and 2028? I thought they weighed alot more then that?

Hi Myron,

Yeah, the rules have changed quite a bit since you last did a Solo 1 event. We've gone to a straight indexing or ladder system where cars move up classes as they're modified. Cars are initially classified using power-to-weight ratio and a handling rating, which are combined in a 70/30 ratio to create an overall Performance Index of PI. This PI determines your car's starting class, in stock form.

So your Fiat would be classed based on it's curb weight, factory horsepower rating, and a handling rating the Committee assigns it (based on it's suspension design, geometry, chassis stiffness, etc). You would then have to add prep points or what we call PIPs (for Performance Improvement Points) to your car's starting PI to determine what class it'll end up in with the mods you've equipped (or plan to equip) it with.

If our numbers for the '82 Fiat X1/9 are accurate (see Krispy's post above) then it starts with a PI of 46.3%, which puts it in Touring3 class. You'd then add on PIPs to this starting PI, such as 1 PIP for the rear swaybar, 1 PIP for the front swaybar, 2 PIPs for upgraded shocks/struts, 4 PIPs for upgraded springs, 1 PIP for spherical bearings, etc. And yes, you do get PIPs back for safety items including wearing full nomex gear, but this PIPs can ONLY be applied against modifications made in the 'Body & Trim' section of the rulebook.

Anyway, for the sake of illustration, lets say you've got 9 PIPs worth of modifications made to your X1/9, in which case your final PI increases from 46.3% to 55.3%, moving you up 2 classes to Touring 1, where John Paczynski competes in his stock Celica GT.

Cheers,
Dave
