I decided to leave a little before the runs were completed as the rest of my family wanted to head for home, how'd everyone fair?.
A big thanks to the organizers, marshalls and the people that braved the elements to come out and play.I for one, once I switched to the 32R's,had a blast as the car with rear diff modded was by far the most fun I've had in a car in awhile.
Just curious if by chance anyone was filming my last run when I came incredibly close to rolling the car and had the wheels up a good couple of feet?really sucked for me as I'm confident up till then that was my best run(totally dry)by far, don't know if it would have been enough to overhaul Tony or not-but it was a cracker to be sure!.

Tom, Steven Tong won the shootout with Tony McGrath second and Pete Lejbjub third.

I had so much fun today running Petes car.
I am amazed at how well it turns in and was very pleased to set some decent times with it...although hitting the cone in the stop box wasn't in the plan........:( I have to stop giving him pointers though, every time i do he knocks almost a full second off his time.....LOL

I have a grin from ear to ear that just won't go away.....

I wish we could run courses like that at every event.....

SOOOOOOOOOO COOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

I ended up going to Cayuga for a lapping event there. What kind of car/cars did they use for the shoot out?

Jud Buchanan was good enough to provide 2 Subaru's for the shootout.

An Impreza RS, and a WRX. Both cars were fitted with wheels and street tires supplied by the Wheel and Tire Zone in Mississauga.

It's great to have sponsors who get so involved in the sport. I'm sending off my "thank you" email to Jud today at judbuchanan@sympatico.ca
I'll be seeing Andrew from Wheel and Tire Zone today, so it looks like I'll be buying a round from Tim Hortons for the guys. :)
I was really impressed when Andrew was the first to volunteer for marshalling duties for the shootout!

Congrats to Steve Tong for taking the overall Top Gun award again in 2003.
Steven proved he was the class of the field by winning the event outright on PAX in a borrowed Miata, and then following it up with some excellent driving to secure the top spot overall.
There was some real tough competition from Peter Lejbjuk and Joe Trinidad - both Subaru pilots of note. Peter L. had to pull out a scorcher of a 6th run in his WRX just to qualify to get into the finals on the PAX system. He used that momentum to put himself up into 3rd overall of the 7 finalists.
Gord Allcock qualified for the finals in his B/Mod "Mongoose" Corvette, and showed he is very adaptable, by placing 4th overall in the shootout. Honourable mentions also go out to Paul Kreutzwiser in his "borrowed" A/SS Miata and Keith Courville in his C3 Accord, who completed the group of 7 "Top Gun" finalists.

Its a shame that it was cold and rained intermittently because this definitely affected the outcome of the event to some degree. Numerous cars were seen spinning wildy on cold worn tires and a few even managed to hit the dirt. I saw Tom Smiths' launch off the apex curbing on the track and was amazed he was able to get the car back on 4 wheels! The car was so far up on 2 wheels that it looked like it was going over for sure, but some heads up driving on Tom's part brought it back to earth right-side-up. Guess all that ice racing experience comes in handy!

All in all a great event , great course, great barbecue! A little work on the weather and it should be even better for next year! :D

I had an absolute blast yesterday.

Congratulations to Steve Tong for taking the Shoot-out and to all the other qualifiers.

I also sent an email to Jud and I got a quick reply.

Many thanks go to WTZ as well for supplying the wheels and tires.

Without sponsor like these guys, we wouldn't even have the shoot-out.

Congratulations to Steve Tong the overall Top Gun again.

Also congratulations to Tony, Peter, Gord, Joe, Jud and Keith. Good day guys!

I have been lucky enough to have beaten Joe and Keith with PAX since event 4 when Joe gave me correct tire pressures. Rain, dry, rain, dry Crappp! Only one good run. You guys pulled it off when it counted. Special congratulations to the both of you!

Way to go to all qualifers, big congrats to Stephen-I was kinda rooting for you after the way the summer played out for you and the new car.
Looking back I think I should have brought the new car instead!!B-mod would've been a little less competition than BSS for sure,if only I'd known that Pat Y and the guy with the stripped out MR2 weren't attending:( .
Your right Tony-I was way up on 2 wheels!! luckily for me and the car that it seemed to happen in slow motion,I keep thinking that it was going to start coming back down on its own and never lifted(I'm a die hard)but finally gave up and turned the wheel the wrong way and got all 4 back on the ground-surprising gentle even! The thing that gets my attention the most is that I hardly touched the curbing-I just hit it in a perfect little drift right when the outside wheels were as heavily loaded as possible.
The only thing that bothers me about the whole day(even the weather)was that I think if that hadn't happened it would have been a really really good run and could have been enough to pull it off.Oh well always next year like they say:D

Yes,

Great lunch Wendy and Perry! I was hoping that pumkin that Robb brought was going to go to the last place finisher, but I was denied! On the pumpkin anyway:)

fun event and a great year.

Many thanks to Jud from Subaru Canada and Andrew from Wheel and Tire Zone who suppied the runoff cars and wheels/ tires respectively. The cars were surprisingly fast considering it was so quiet in them.

Thanks also to everyone that made the event possible - Robb and Wendy, Wes, Perry, Blair (rack 'em and stack 'em, eh), and
all the marshals who helped make the event flow so well.

Lastly, I wanted to thank Rob H. for gratiously offering me his car to run on Sunday and Jeff W. for helping out.

I had a lot of fun throughout the day and it felt great to be in a Miata again. Honestly, I really didn't expect to win against the competition in the shootout finals this year especially considering how fast everyone appeared when they ran. But, as they say,
I'll take it! :D

Great event, hope to be back next year.

Congrats Steve!!!

Looks like I missed a good season of racing this year. I will try to get out there next year and give you a run Steve!! Well, still won by a miata guy in a miata!! Yes, I still think Steve's a miata guy deep down, the Mini make a good OTM though.

Congrats Steve!!

Welcome back, Ray...
I have a Miata... but am not as fast as you and Steve... I wish I was Chinese and drove a Miata... that seems to be a pre-requisite for winning the shootout! :D ;)

...you ever use your F2000 prize???

At the open house in the spring a little bird told me before hand that Steve had a mini on order to run BSS with-certainly figured that my chances of a repeat went out the window!:(
In the end it turned out to be a good thing the miata was history-would've made it a bigger group of guys going for back-ups if it hadn't!!.
