Greetings, I'm new to this forum.
Does anyone know if that Competition Corvette Club Solo event is still a go for this Sunday the 12th? Just wondering because it is Thanksgiving weekend. I want to come out with my old Bimmer and thrash it around one more time before I put it away.
Looks like 80% chance of rain, would that cancel the event?
Cheers!
Rick

They announced it at the last event so I would expect it's still on.

I'll show up anyway.

Nah, Corvettes aren't afraid of a little cold rain are they?

Just bring a decent raincoat so you don't get soked when you're marshalling.

Be sure to check http://www.wiredmotorsports.com for any news of cancellation.

HEY thanks for the replies ya'll - lookin forward to burning some oil.HAhA hA.
One more thing, there's no regulation on the helmets in SoloII these days right? I have an M90 and an SA85.

I think M95 is the minimum requirement right now. But I believe that the COMP guys usually have a couple of loners.

Correct on the helmets, M95 or up.

Rick_323i

I assume an SA 90 or better would be legal too right?

Nope, SA 95 and up.

WOW.

fast course, 8 runs, 5 fun runs...today was WELL worth getting up early.

58.6 was my best. then on my fun-runs, i took john's 1.8t gti out, and got 57.00

how frustrating is that?

to make it worse, andrew got a 56.4 or something like that in my car, after trying it out for 2 runs.

lol - what a day.

Yes Awesome event today, nice and fast with a few nice slow spots to trick you up a little. That was my first autocross since my engine issues and it would appear the car is running good. I also had a chance to try some VW powaa in the form of a beetle and a GTI. The Beetle wow it take a good driver in that thing to go fast kinda surprising how the power comes on but the hardest thing is the distance from the dash to the windshield I couldn't figure it out so then I was offord a chance to try a realllllllly nice GTI turbo WOW on street tires. This thing was nice it did everything you would like it to do and on street tires it went really well I allmost beat my time in my car. I think those turbos are addictive PHssssssssh phssssh phsssssh yummy

It was fun indeed. I was surprised how low the turnout was, given how nice the lot is. One thing I sure noticed was the difference in traction once the sun came out. There was a lot more grip, and my times got a lot better. My kid still beat me though. Second time that's happened. However, I'm closing the gap. Last time event it was by 1.2 seconds. This time it was only 0.6 seconds. Guess I need to learn to drive!:D

I think you do just fine Gary;) ,so have you managed to do anything to my old alltrac in preparation for this winter?

russ, you think thats bad?

i went out in johns car and tied my fastest time in the bug first time out. (54.1)
and almost a full second faster then my car on the 2nd fun run. i believe it was a 53.3.

BTW, i love the VR.

im converted now, i love N/A.

it was hard to drive my car after i was done with yours. Ive definitely decided to go N/A on my golf.

Yup, great value that's for sure! Eight 50+ second runs in by 2:15. Hah.

Course was pretty quick.. I managed to spin the car once and damn near do it two more times.

I think maybe if I installed a steering mechanism that people with only one hand use, so I could counter steer out of trouble like that. :)

With the Focus committing mechanical suicide on Saturday I was stuck with the IS300 for the event yesterday.

After getting used to the Focus driving the RWD IS300 was not particularly easy, although I must say my car control has improved this summer. It was little things like forgetting to turn off traction control, pressing the PWR button and putting the car in 2 not D or M. I needed to use a heavy foot to get ABS to kick in I'm so used to pressing the peddle hard but that didn't even make the ABS kick in once. Some 58's were ok but I just never felt comfortable in the car.

I can't wait for next season to start, but I'll need the entire 6 months to get the car ready.:D I'm going to use all my mod points to the fullest.:D

Taylor, your looking for a 1960's suicide knob, when my dad raced stock cars in the late 60's early 70's I remember him talking about a brute of a guy that drove stock car with one.Never used 2 hands on the wheel just that spinner knob.
Oh yeah,I remember a drivers saying I heard somewhere"fast hands fix foul form":D

Taylor

Tom: Well I'm plenty quick enough to steer...when I have power steering, without it... obviously not.

I need a bigger wheel too.. back to stock me-thinks.

I was just teasing Taylor,I know what you mean about the small wheel-I really prefer smaller wheel when everything goes right, makes it a bitch when things get outta shape however;)

Gary

Tom, I may not be that bad a driver, but the bottom line is: Andrew gets in the same car I drive, and goes faster than I do. And, he ran first, not second, so the warm tires advantage goes to me, not him.:( That's OK, though. I'm happy he can kick my butt. Of course, your turn will come too, once your little guy gets old enough, and gets a bit of seat time........

As for the Celica, it has spent the summer hibernating in a barn under a tarp. With luck, the dry storage will have slowed the tin worm a bit! In the next few weeks, the Mustang and Andrew's half restored Firebird will head for the barn and the Celica will get the winter wake-up call. You know the problem, too many cars, not enough space. We are going to have a go at the bearings on the front struts first, and I think we will see if we can't swap in the softer front springs while we are at it. Then we'll weld up the exhaust, and if I'm feeling brave, we may take a swing at that oil leak on the front of the engine. I'm also wondering if maybe we ought to see if we can't increase the rear spring rate to get the car to rotate a bit better. Maybe you can PM me with your thoughts.

I'm really looking forward to ice racing. I grew up in Alberta, and got lots of practice playing "dodge 'em" on the highways to Banff and Jasper during ski weekends at the wheel of such superb ice race cars as my mother's '61 Impala and various late 60's Buicks and Oldsmobiles borrowed from my Dad. Tires? Why, Firestone Town & Country's, don't 'cha know. On the rear only, of course. Can you say understeer? Especially the Buicks and Oldsmobiles with those big ol' GM 455 V8's up front. Fast in a straight line when the roads were dry, but not so easy to keep out of the ditch on curving roads when the snow is on the road.

So the NA guy wants FI; and the FI guy wants NA. Ha!

I found that course very hard to keep my turbo spooled up. And were those triple-apex corners at the far ends or what? Getting the correct line was tough!

Ryan, after my ride along in a Z-24 at the last PITL event, I finally understand how you manage to kick such  without downshifting to 1st, ever: that engine is a serious stump puller!!

The Corvette showing should be better on Oct 26th. Klaus, who drove up from Niagara-on-the-Lake in the other yellow Z06 to spectate plans on competing, Jerry and Jolande will be back and my nuclear banana is now back together and should make it's first showing of the year.

did gord ever leave??? No... I think he is still there!

they were there.. set up, cleaned up... and 1/2 didn't even drive Thanks for the kind words. I especially want to thank Doug for ensuring the bus with all our gear makes it out to each event. That was a typical event the Corvette club likes to run - roughly 40 competitors, fun course, lots of runs, lots of fun runs, easy going, no politics... and the lot was cleaned up and everyone left by 4:15pm - enough time to get home for Thanksgiving diner.

i'll be going to the event on the 26th - 3 events this year at the 'vette lot.

you guys have it *down*. it seems you get more runs out of a day than any other club. I dont attribute this simply to less competitors - when you say 'drivers meeting at 10' - you stick to it.

one thing though, why cant we have passengers? (that have signed the waiver) ?

cheers,
~spoonie

That was definitely the most fun that I've had at a Corvette Club event!

Don't know if it was the layout, the lack of competitors, or the fact that everything seemed to be working pretty well for me..... Probably a little bit of all three!

I think in the end I managed a 52.4XX as my quickest run. I was pretty pleased with the way the car was handling, but there is no doubt that there was at least another second in there somewhere.

I had a great time, but like you Spoonie, I'd love to be able to take passengers!?! ;)

Yeah Daniel was definately zooming around like a mad man out there.
