Nice test, anybody see one on oil filters? I would like to see a test of the major brands.

glad I run the Delco filter in my duramax then :)

No real surprise. Better filtration but more restriction. They really had to do a test for that? So you sacrifice durability for power or vice versa. Will I still run a K&N in my track car? Yes.

yeah I run a open element on my race car too ...

for the street though no point...better filtration is the best way to go

Re Oil Filter testing. An individual did do testing on a number of different "brands" of filters.
He has lots of observations but did not actually pass dirty fluid through the filters and then
see how "good" the filter was, etc. One of the filter manufacturers threatened to sue him and the web site was missing for awhile but I think it is back up now. I used "google" to find it before. I would think one could use his methods to determine which Canadian available filters meet the requirements one considers beneficial. There is some debate about what is a good filter and what is a bad filter. (Hint, the WIX filters are supposed to be in the "good" list). If you want some fun, buy a bunch of different brands for the same application and be surprised that a number of different brands are in fact to the same specifications. Summit Racing have a tool to cut filters apart. The tool is probably available as special order in Toronto at maybe Performance Improvements.

Darn, I'm still being my know it all old self.

all i know is that when i was washing my K&N a stream of water was passing through it like it wasnt even there... and as far as i know air is thinner than water...

I've seen where some people have cut open an oil filter too.It is useful to know how it is made, type of media, bypass valve and end caps. It would be nice if someone actually did a test of passing dirty oil through and measure effectiveness of the various brands as far as filtration ability and restriction. I used to use AC Delco oil filters but they recently changed, they now buy them it seems from various overseas suppliers, so I switched to Wix for the time being until I can be sure of the quality of the new AC Delco ones. As for air filters it is useful to know what filters do what best. All around the AC Delco units won, some other popular brands really did poorly. As for Duramax air filters in particular some guys have tried to cheap out by using the Vortec 8.1 filter, it fits in the airbox fine but will collapse under high demand and can be sucked into the turbo causing huge damage.

I want to remove the snorkel from the airbox but am concerned about water ingress. Which of the air filters is oiled as I am under the impression that water ingress is less likely with an oiled filter than with a standard paper-style one like the stock version.

I know the Pipercross version is but what about the BMC and K&Ns?

Just an FYI - I don't know how old that test is, but that AMSOIL filter (TS123) has not been produced in over 5 years, and not representative of their current nano-fiber technology.
