Andrew,
I think you end up in D Mod..
You would be able to use the update/backdate rule if the 87 GTI was available with VR6

Andrew don't put that big heavy lump of an engine in your golf!!,light weight is where its at man:D .
Seriously front drivers are already to nose heavy, why add even more for a little more giddy up.Unbolting things doesn't cost a penny and you'll like the way the car feels WAYYY better-trust me on this one.I plan on attending the tlmc event next weekend, but I hope to bring the crx-if I do bring the corolla instead I'll let you take it for a spin.

If you're going to do a hybrid A2 VW, the best swap is to get a 1.8T. The VR6 is a really heavy chunk of metal with limited power potential. If you do the 1.8T, the car will be way more balanced w/ better f/r weight distribution and a slightly lower CG. The 1.8T torque curve comes on earlier and stays more consistent through the rev range. Cost is probably comparable to a VR6 swap too I believe.

These guys have a good point...
Just talk to Mr. Yorke about putting a heavier lump up front...
He might provide you with some additional sound advice.
Andrew,
D-Mod is where Rob and I will be next year. Go for it but put the VR-6 in the back.

I read an article a long time ago about a Scirocco with a VR6 behind the front seats. I can't remember what magazine it was in though. Too bad we don't have Lupos here or you could make a SHOgun wannabe. :D

Yeah Andrew you can take a spin in the crx if it works OK,I only have the factory rear bar as the 22mil sliding end link adjustable one I ordered is on backorder:( .
Should be fun anyways, but I doubt it'll be as much fun as the corolla untill its sorted.Oh but what if you realize that the golf with its strut front and trailer axel rear suspension isn't as nice as a wishbone honda suspension on all 4 corners?:D
I think Pats big lump of an engine is just fine!that thing works wether the roads strait or bent! I'll have my work cut out for me if I attend any solo2's that he does as I'll have to run him with the crx;) .

tom, very true.
the suspension on a volkswagen is so very old, its sad.
the suspension on my 2001 beetle is the SAME as the suspension on a 1985 Golf.
Im already disputing if i should continue with the golf, or buy an 88-89 CRX.
You arent helping. ;)
p.s- where will you be next? i would like to take the CRX for a couple of spins.
most likely i will be at bronte this sunday.

I don't have time for any events this weekend,so the next planned event is tlmc next weekend and hope to have the crx back together enough to give it a try-I might have to try harder as I'm expecting a phone call this afternoon with regards to the sale of the corolla.
You can take the the thing for a spin, then you can buy one and we can play together!are you going to do solo1 or 2 next year?.
