This mini battle has been going on behind the scenes with some very close raw times. Below are the contestants I know of. There must be more.
Renato C: Corolla
Thomas M: Integra R
Greg F: Talon
Mike A: Impreza
Simon (?): Focus
...who else?

Last year I would have been one of 'em:D
Of course we all know there is only one "street tyre". :D

Me ha ha ha must have me confused with the other Simon.
I think I'm still a year away before I can have the word "Fast" in thought or idea with my name.
I'm trying hard though:D

Don't forget Luca in his 2.5RS. He was crazy on Azenis. Beating MANY BSS guys on R tires.

Add Stefan to that list. (NeonStef), I belive at the CNAC tester he had one of the fastest street tire times.
He's driving the red R/T with Goodyear F1's.

Me!
When I came out this year, I beat alot of people with my stock tires on 18" rims!
It was fun!!!

Yup, that #83 is wicked.
And Stefan is getting up there very quickly. He used to be pretty slow when he started but he is starting to cause serious concern.:D
Now, how do we go about setting up this totally informal street tire class?

Why have it informal?
Why not lobby to have a street tire class for next year?

That would be fun!
I say let the mazda peeps start it next year. They have it together as far as organization goes.....and could likely implement that at each event with ease.
I think they have one or two computer nerds that could handle that. :D

i would like to nominate john's GTI.
i was a second faster on street tires in his car then i was in my beetle (r compounds).
53.2 @ the corvette club (oct 12)

Yeah, a street tire class next year--that would be nice!
TLMC have been separating the cars by R-comps vs Street tires all year, so it's easy to see how quick the street guys are.
Was that 53.2 in competition? :o Yeah that car is amazingly quick, and wasn't it fun to put away the crutches of R-comps to test your skills as an underdog?

the difference between my car and the GTI is night and day.
There are only 3 advantages with the beetle over the GTI.
- R Compound
- More forgiving suspension (Stock)
- Sleeper
The GTI begins its life with an extra 30hp, ~200 lbs less, and "sport suspension".
You will probably catch me in the GTI for the rest of the year.
The beetle is ill, and is retiring.
Next year, a new(real) car will rise up, and reign

SCCA has two street tire classes, they work for them.
My concern is filling classes next year.
Does everyone want to compete in their own class? At least we will all be winners.

Renalto has been an azenis all season with the exception of the PMSC event which he used my spare set and I co-drove.
Tlmc has been separating r-tires?I never attended any tlmc events(and I'm a member!)because they screwed their dates up and ended up running nearly every event on a regional weekend. But in the past they never made any attempt at tires sorting whatsoever-even allowed non-dot slicks in any class on any car(meaning no rollover protection as required in casc rules).
I guess I'll find out this weekend when I attend my first one.

Hey guys, where can I get my hand on a set of 175/50/13's? I got my current tires from Tire Rack, at that time they had A008 but not anymore!! Any suggestions on what and where in that size?

Thats ok with me stewpiddass,I'm bringing the crx with 32r's so it can rain or whatever.Well if it snows it'll suck, anybody want to loan me some snows for the day?;)
I guess I'm running in your class Todd?

thank God I've already clinched the class Tom, I was winning the overall points race but that damn Fiero set FTD too many times this year for me to keep the lead...
I've got some 175-60-13 032R's in the garage mini mut

Will those fit on my rims? I am no expert in tyre sizes. I have plenty of clearance in my wheel wells. I think my rims at 13X6, if you think they would fit, let me know your price. I am definately interested, now all I need is another set of 4 on 4 rims!

Dave Galos @ TLMC has just earned a spot at the top of this list!! Damn, that Fiero is quick.
Word is, he might be running the regionals next year. I'd be very afraid if he was in my class.

Dave had a 54.XX, but coming to think of it, he was driving a lot of cars yesterday and maybe that run didn't count.

I ran 58.2 (IIRC) on Mosport DDT counterclockwise on Pilot Sports, and a 74.8 on the same tires at the Pro Track back when i didn't have over 500hp.
Since then, lack of track time has pretty much demolished my ability to drive like that... must make amends next year.
'course, in Solo II, my car will fail to impress.

I did use some of my runs to try other cars, but the real 54.xx was with the fiero on street tires,...and of course, there was room for improvement...

No offence but when someone is driving more than one vehicle it kinda skewes the results, some drivers simply have twice as many tries at the course.Yes driving different vehicles on different tires makes for a different driving style but being familiar with the course makes a huge difference.Thats why regional rules prohibit a driver entering an event more than once.
Why do you think so many people set their fastest time on a fun run?
StewPiddass
10-24-2003, 03:22 AM
Dave only entered once, and left early so he got 6 runs, one was in my car and one in the MR2 Monster (maybe another one too) so he only had 3 or 4 runs in the Fiero...

my first run was ftd to that point, most other people had two runs at that point, my third run in the fiero was my fastest, and i suppose if i ran all 7 in the same car, then my time would have improved.
As in regional, you don't often get 7 tries ... i was just there to have fun - loud music, spin tires, drive fast, etc

Like I said Dave no offence,I couldn't keep track of how many cars/runs other people were taking with people swapping cars every other run etc.
You do drive the hell outa the fiero, its the first time this year I've seen it-seems to me that new engine is indeed way faster than last years.

I personally think it kinda unfair that some have been driving there cars for years and years and others not. Thats why I like the TLMC shootout! Now that is what Solo2 should be like at every event. As long as the organizers don't go blowing up the competition cars all the time! :p

Heee hee heee!
Dave should have got the penalty for reving the crap out of the better car and blowing it up at the shootout last year. I won the shootout and actually wanted to keep the honda. Instead all I won was a leaky gas tanked POS VW Fox!
It was kind of funny seeing him trying to rev the honda into working better and detonating it.....LOL

TFGR I never looked at as being unfair for someone to own a car/drive a car longer than others,I guess you need to keep you car awhile and then you'll be the one with a perceived advantage.
Look at me,my car is a trailer queen and not street legal so there has been times this summer that I didn't even sit in it for well over a month between events-I still won every event but one(got a 2nd).Guess all I'm saying is it nice to be able to drive the vehicle every day for a long period of time but isn't required.

If you recall, someone had killed the clutch, .. as I had preferred that car, and a clutch is not something that usually would stop me, i did give it a try, had a great run, then the timer din't work! 2nd try was too much...car is now resting in hillsdale scrap yard.
Shootouts are fun, it would be better to get cars that are different for everyone, like the first year where we had the old CRX, Mr Rusty (MR2), and George's open wheel - that way we can spread the experience.
As it was, all FWD, it was still fun, but I will claim that I was at a significant disadvantage and this is why I was only 2nd. ... next time we'll see...
________
fiero did pick up 20 hp with the engine built properly (by me), it still lacks high RPM power. For the record, only 150HP at the wheels.

The absolute best was the leaky gas tank that spilled gas on the left rear tire, so that all right handers where "special".
I really enjoyed that day...It was alot of fun.
I wish that all solo2 could be like that! Why don't you try that one season and have 2-3 cars that we can maintain for like 4 events. Open only to members. A shoot out series! That would be awesome!

That happened to you too? In my case, I left the gas cap loose. Hard right, fuel flys out the filler, all over the left rear tire, can you say 360? I knew you could... :)

Yeah, then it sat in my garage for 2 months, for planned use as a winterbeater, then I found a Civic for $50 and unloaded the POS Fox, still can't get rid of all the stains it left on my garage floor!

And that first fox didn't keep you from buying another VW product, hmmm you must of been lucky with the fox or you are truly a VW nut!.My only experience with VW's was with gti Rabbit's,(one was mint with 83,000 kms!)both were the biggest s##t boxes I ever owned and their supposed to be WAYYY better than the fox:D
I always referred the the Fox as the "German K car". It was fun in the sense that I beat on it and it just wouldn't die. It just kept on ticking until the head gasket gave out at 250,000 km. It definitely outlasted my next purchase which was a Ford. I now drive a VW again and I am extremely happy. I know the engine will last as long as it gets it's regular maintenance.
LOL, I used to have a Fox too... Was my first car in high school. Bought it for $315, sold for $120. What they don't tell you is that they're not even German cars... They're Brazillian. And ya, that means cheap Brazillian steel that rusts like crazy after one or two Ontario winters. Good car though if it weren't for all the cancer problems.
