From Michelin's Website:

The Pilot® Sport Cup is MICHELIN's first DOT-approved competition performance tire that is designed to increase driving excitement! With world class racing performance, the Pilot® Sport Cup provides confidence during aggressive cornering, acceleration and braking.

Anyone heard anything about these tires?

They came out last year.

$$$$$$$$

But supposed to be worth the money in terms of long life. Definitely a track-compound that likes to get some heat in it. Not for autocross.

They are OK.
Mine died a horrible death at about 19K kms. Tracked, autocrossed and gererally abused. Lots of money for these.
IMHO the Goodyear F1's are a noticably better tire.....and for less money!

Ummmm pretty much.....but I work from home....and that mileage was mostly all track and autocross time since I purchased the car in 02.
Do yourself a favor and buy the Goodyear F1's.....a better tire by far for a better price! I recently competed in a PCA enduro in the rain and lapped all the cars three times during the race. Part of it was knowing the wet line, but alot of it was the tire. They are excellent in dry and wet conditions.
Read the reviews....they say the same thing!

I suspect you two are talking about 2 very different tires. From everything I've heard, including talking with Brad who runs them on his M Roadster, the Pilot Sport Cup is very close to the Hoosier R3S03 DOT road race tire but with better life.

There are a number of other Pilot Sport something tires which are intended for street use, including the Pilot Sport SX-GT which were stock on my Miata and lasted for 1 summer/35,000km of street, autocross and 1 lapping evening.

There are also a number of Goodyear F1 something tires. I currently have the F1 GS-D3 on the Miata and while they are a very good street tire, they aren't even in the same area code as the Hoosiers in terms of dry grip. I also wouldn't take the F1 GS-D3s to the track without shaving them.

Brad's review of the Pilot Sport Cup is durable enough to drive to the track, faster than the RA-1 in the dry and scary in the wet. I think he gets something like 8 Solo 1 and a few lapping weekends out of a set plus drives to the track on them. I suspect he gets less than 1000 track plus 3000 street km from a set. I will be very happy if I can get 300 track km from my Hoosiers on the 155HP, 2200 pound plus driver Miata.
