no.
was runinng A520

i dunno whether or not me flipping em before the event had anything to do w/ it, or maybe it was cuz of the chilly weather.

had no grip whatsoever today. aside from 2 and 4 on fabi, the tail came out at one point or another on eveyr other corner.

another gent had a 1.8L (i think it was 1.8..not sure now) stock everything except RA1s and he was 4s per lap quicker. (no doubt he was a better driver..but man, 4 seconds might as well be a continent in terms of distance)

flipping the tires will cost you some time until they get bedded in again.

And the yoks are a slower tire compared to toyo's espically if the RA1 were well used.....

oh i realised long ago my tires are no where near Rs when it comes to grip.
just dunno if i should be putting more goodies into my car when i know i still have room to improve as a driver :D

Krispy is absolutely right, both that seat time will help greatly, and that the next biggest difference is in tires.
I used to do about 87-88 seconds on Fabi with A520 Yokohamas, changing to 032r I got down to 85.7. The biggest differences were in mid-corner speed and the ability to trail the brakes into ther corner.
My car is a 1965 TR4, so similar size and weight to your Miata, but you have much better suspension. My guess is that the power difference between 1.6 and 1.8 litre Miatas doesn't count for much compared with experience and tires.

My best at Fabi was 79.5 the first time I did a Solo 1 there. I had taken the Solo 1 school, the track was much warmer and I had Victorracers on my 2000 Miata. There is nothing wrong with 84 second lap times for your first time on that track considering the temperature and tires.

I agree with Jeff. 84 seconds on street tires and in cold conditions is very respectable. Nice work! With some r-compounds, warmer conditions, and some seat time you'll be right there where you need to be for Solo 1.

1:24 isn't slow! I did 1:24 in my s/c'd Miata on Falkens. Steelrat was also doing 1:24 in his n/a Miata on RA1s, and it was the first time on the track for both of us.

finboy was doing 1:17 (on 235 Kumhos), the white WRX was 1:18, and the stock '02 Miata on RA1s was doing 1:20.

Ryan:

i realised that. That's why i feel I'm slow, cuz I think that was my 8th or 9th visit to that track this season. (that's starting from May lol) 9th visit and being only as fast as a person who's not familiar w/ the track is pretty slow i think.

but then again, I have the "excuse" of having all that 112 20 year old crank hp :D but i refuse to fall into that trap.

TR: didn't have my miata. my M1 won't be seeing any sort of leg-stretching activities (s/o's order that for her sake, i don't mod it. blah)

think i'll velcro a stopwatch to the steering wheel nd start timing my laps next session. (or splurge for a wheel like the one you have ryan ;) )
