View Full Version : My GT2-Killer engine is alive!!!
I just installed my GT2-Killa engine and finally got it fired up tonight with the help of Moose. My neighbours must hate me for idling my car for 20 minutes at midnight, but my high compression baby wanted to sing a bit! WoohOO!!!
Graves and McAuley, I'm comin' for ya!!!

Specs?
Or is it a secret?
good work dave.....
hmmm maybe you could eat a few mustangs as well :)
Tyson, no I don't wear glasses and that's no secret :p
Adam, Mohamed's Mustang was in my class this year, so I've got the Mustang beating thing down already, though I had to work really hard to beat him at the last event of the year when I co-drove Jason's CRX. Mohamed should be a potential class winner next year, especially if he shows up in a Z06 like I think he might :) Plus he's an extremely nice guy, so I'll be rooting for him all the way!
If Russ is back in GT2 with his Mustang, we'll all have our hands full in that class. But I think Russ is having a bit of an engine rebuild done with some go-fast parts thrown in for good measure, so I suspect he'll be in GT1 or SGT3 if not higher.
Cheers,
Dave
ohhh V8's galore...
and a z06.....ohhh the hunting will be very good next year.....very good indeed
dave..this time..try and keep that motor together...maybe limit the revs to 7500

So the new engine specs aren't secret yet you're avoiding the question. How much more power do you expect to have and do you really think it will be enough to catch us?

Heard it all before...

He's gonna have more power then he had before. Hows that jeff?
Hehe...what Krispy said!
Jeff, I will be making more horsepower than your Miata, put it that way. But of course I may blow the thing up at any moment, so I wouldn't hit the panic button just yet :)
There's really nothing secret about it. It's a typical high compression, big cam, race header type dealio, plus I'm going up to some really big spring rates so that I can make my kidneys bleed on the 401.

Well I stopped by the shop today, and it'll likely be another couple weeks before they can put it back in the car.
I'm expecting to be having my ass handed to me in the SGT3 class next year. I won't be making many handling mod's (ie. CC plates). Reason 1: improve the driver first. Reason 2: $$$$$$$ The engine rebuild, along with the other goodies, will likely top $12,000! Ouch!
Wow Russ, how much horsepower is that bad boy going to be making???

Dave, it wouldn't take much for you to make more power than I do. I only had a 10hp advantage last year. You already had the power to weight edge and much better suspension. How are you planning to stiffen your suspension? I thought you already had solid rods in place of shocks:) Looks like I might have to put a real suspension on the car for next year and drop a few more pounds.
a better suspension, than a Miata??? Inconceivable! ;) There's no denying that the Miata has some inherent goodness about it that allows it to go faster than its power-to-weight ratio would suggestion. The RWD and strong handling package probably has a little something to do with that...though it pains me to admit that a girly car could also be a damn fine track machine.
My suspension was moderately stiff this year (10k front and 14k rear) but I'll probably run 14k front and 20k rear next year. If I have a PIP to spare, I may also go with a 1'' rear swaybar.
But hey, nothing is written in stone since a lot can change between now and next May. Who knows, maybe I'll turbo this sucker and go Adam hunting instead! :D

I was running around on KYB AGX with 375 front 250 rear springs last year. Every thing else was stock. The shocks and bushings were both well worn. I think you're confusing handling with driver skill and hoosiers.

"well worn"
Thats a understatement.......his shocks are gone.
My bad, Jeff. Miatas are clearly terrible handling cars. But hey, at least you have a good excuse for the humiliating thrashing I'll be giving you next season :p

I'm not sure what, if anything, I'll do to the Miata over the winter. I do know I'll be doing some road racing next year and I'll put less effort into Solo 1 than I did this past season.
One option is to turn the Miata into a track only car even though I know that is a stupid and expensive thing to do compared to buying a race car. The first mods I would do wouldn't cost me additional PIPs so I could stay competitive in Solo 1 for another season.
Yeah, that may have been a bit of an understatement on the shocks. The car is starting to bounce on the highway with the shocks set on 3 (4 is full stiff) and the last few times at the track, the car was bouncing through the faster turns with both ends set to full stiff.

Jeff, PLEASE put some real shocks and springs in that car. I wanna see what it can really do!!

....and the guy that couldn't find third to save his life. :p
You and your father are the only two people to ever have a problem with third in my car. It must be those sloppy fwd trannies you're used to.
I think I could scare most of the GT1 field with a real suspension, stripping the interior for real and optimizing a few other mods I'm already taking points for. At the same time I think Rob would still be tough competition if he optimized his BMW for GT2. On top of that, I think I could go 'vette hunting with some engine work while staying NA and running on ultra 94.
What do you think that CRX would do if you had power compareable to Ken's RSX?
Chris P
10-24-2003, 06:18 PM
damn you and your 3rd gear!!!
my car with powah like ken? ummmm, probally rip the car into pieces. 1st gen rex's are WEAK, it would just flex like a mofo.
Dave the hp and torque do you think you will have more that my little dodge i just got my new fuel system this week 300 gph
pump 53 gph injectors should help with my leaning out problem
mite even be able to squeeze out 19 lbs of boost with a 3" exhaust i'll have to check out the #s but that should be still good for the GT2 class and gota get faster tires than rock hard yok's

Are all of us with stock engines going to have to spend a lot of time dodging oil puddles left by you guys?? That OMSC rule about holding up competition due to a mechanical failure may end up being adopted by all the organizing clubs. How about requiring all cars with more than 10 engine PIPs to carry 100 lb of oil dry in their cars?? ( This coming from a guy with a very non optimised car )
BTW Jeff , what size were those Hoosiers you ran last year? My 265s on a 3500 lb car seem to be awfully small. Apparently if you have cubic $ you can get 17 x 11 wheels to fit my car all around and use 315 Hoosiers ( new of course). Still wouldn't handle like a Miata but would be a big improvement. OTOH it would be a lot cheaper just to take the drivers school at the Bridgestone Racing Academy rather than hope to win it.

I ran 225/45R15 (both Kumho and Hoosier) on 7.5" rims. The car weighs somewhere in the 2400 to 2430 range with me in it. I'm guessing I have about 125rwhp. What do you have Dr. Dave, about double that?
I forgot about that BRA school. The last thing we need is Krispy improving his driving skills :D
Chris P

BRA school? Did i win something? Sweet! Does the SOLO 1 champ get anything else? purhaps a set of Yoks? I already know about the events which is the only reason i'll be able to afford running SOLO in 2004.
Steve, your Omni should be called Omnimax! That's some insane horsepower you've got there. My car will be lucky to make half that at the wheels, but I'm ok with that as long as it's reliable and I can develop the suspension further (not to mention the nut behind the wheel).
Jeff, planning to put a scare into GT1, eh? Man, you sure don't lack confidence, do ya? :p

I averaged about a second behind the GT1 winner's time for the last half of the season. With real springs, shocks and intake and taking full advantage of stripping the interior plus trimming 15 or 20 pounds off the driver (no PIPs for that :D) I think I could find another second.
I only see three problems with this plan, it costs money, I would no longer want to drive the car to work every day and the GT1 guys can also raise the bar.
the chalange is always on i started the year some 7 seconds behind Dave by years end i was less that a second off his time and i even split up you and Rob on Sat of the last weekend. :p

Jeff , yes I have likely 100% more power and only 53% more wgt but my measly 17 % more tire for that same 53% wgt increase and the live rear axle ( unsprung wgt including rims and tires of about 350 lb) adds up to a pig as far as handling is concerned. Best I can say is like the old compliment, " For a fat girl she doesn't sweat much". OTOH another 5-6 grand for 17 x 11 " rims , spacers. studs and 315 tires would likely go a long way to improving the handling deficit but I still need some neg camber in the rear to really make that work. Unless I win the lottery it is unlikely I would "spring" for that rim/tire combination.
I think the fact that you are so close to GT1 winning times has a lot to do with your driving and car prep.(My compliments to both) OTOH I really screwed up at 4 out of 7 events I ran this year so go ahead and raise the bar, GT1 is going to be ready for you!

And it will not even cost you any pip’s
Even when you do screw up, your good
I have to admire you and Christian for your smooth driving.

Jeff , further to my comments above, I would certainly work on improving my car's handling by bigger and better tires, wgt loss or a better suspension design rather than doing anything about the power issue.
Also how much good is the power if I spend so much time spinning my wheels at slower R hand corners? Did you notice at the last event how well the 4 wheel drive Porsche Turbo did vs Vettes with even more power? Getting out of the hairpin with 4 wheel traction likely does a huge thing for your trap speeds. Wish we had the radar gun available.
BTW Greg you are far too kind. Are you just sucking me in for a serious wager should you get your car down to GT1 specs?

Dave, I know someone picking up some 17x11 rims for 315 rubber. Four ZR1 copies for about $1,000.
Interested in my rubber or rims. See the for sale section.

Guess my ears were burning.
I haven't been around here for a couple of weeks, and find I'm the victim of some smack talk!
All you GT2 people had better watch out - my car may get optimized this winter.
Our last event - at the BMW driving school on the big track at Mosport - Sue decided it was time for new wheels, suspension, brakes, and an M3 bumper. To convince me to spend the money, she trashed the old equipment.
I'm waiting to hear the final word on what needs replacing, but let it be known - I won't be downgrading!
I can tell who wears the pants around your house, Rob ;) Sounds like GT2 will be some serious fun next year! Looking forward to it!

14k F 20k R setup sounds pretty brutal to the car on public roads in GTA..
i have only 7 F/R and it was getting annoying
good lord i can't imagine 14 / 20
10k 14k is about as stiff as I'm willing to go if I'm driving it to the track. If I get a trailer, then I'll go 14k 20k. But 10k 14k isn't all that bad if the shock valving is well matched and you run fairly low tire pressures. These are the sacrifices we make to the go-fast crackpipe...
