Is it legal to flat tow a car in ontario that is not registered? I was planning on flat towing a racecar this summer but just realized that it may not even be legal.
I assume a tow dolly would be fine but if the car is being towed 4 wheels down does it need to be plated?
Thanks.

I'm pretty sure it's legal as long as you use an approved tow bar. One of those that hooks up to two mounts on the towed vehicle and on a ball hitch on the tow vehicle. Don't forget to use lights on the towed vehicle through the tow vehicles harness.

I have found a bit of stuff backing that up in the last hour. I would love it if somebody has something from the MTO I could print out just to have in the car. You never know when you are going to get pulled over by somebody having a bad day. ;)
I will be using a proper tow bar set-up (with chains) and have the rear lights on the tow car adapted into the tailights of the other car.

while bringing our ice racers back from Minden very recently, unmarked OPP went by us on 62, saw Dan flat towing the unplated ice racer and made the big U-turn and gave us the light show. The ice racer was flat towed with a securely bolted tow bar, safety chains and lights wired in.
While I was fearing the worst, the officer was just interested in the car, where we raced. We were on our way in five minutes with no problem at all.

Must've been the one that turned em on for me when my old dodge went by him at 109 in carnarvon. 06 sticker, 08 insurance, plate under seat. I told him I was actually legal (apart from speeding) He was pissed until i said i was ramped up from ice racing and then told me how Tom P used to give them shit for takin the crown vics around the track. Wanted to race himself. Told me to slow down. The end.

flat towing a vehicle is in fact legal. Requirements are = Tow bar, second means of attachment (chains) and lights... like a tow truck uses ( extensions ). Plates and insurance not required.
