I have just finished restoring the Shell 4000 prototype 1968 Rambler American. This "blue car" was the test mule for coming up with a platform for constructing the 3 white cars that competed in the rally finishing 2nd, 3rd & 5th. The car was the "chase" car in the rally, in case one of the others needed to rob some parts, but none were needed, all 4 cars proved very reliable. After the rally the car was purchased by BARC member Sid Crump, who with his partner Dave Mackenzie ran the car in Ontario winter rallies, at least one Mosport club race, the Knox Mountain Hillclimb. During this period the car was also used as a tow vehicle for a Lotus 7. The car was parked early to mid '70 and sat outside until I got it several years ago. To date I have only one period photo of the car, that being at Knox Mountain. I am asking everyone to hopefully come up with more photos, with a history like this, it must have got on film somewhere! If you think you might be able to help, please dig out those shoeboxes full of photos and have a look for me. Thanks in advance, you can see a photo of the car now to jog your memory in the "Passion for Motorsports" section on my website (thehappyroadracer.com)
