View Full Version : Question on Novice Classification

I have looked through the rule book but I'm at a loss to find out what determines a persons classification as a novice in the regional series. I know that if you run more then 3 events then you would loose the designation, am I right? Also what if you have past auto slalom experience, like 14 years ago? Does that negate the novice classification as well? I am asking this because I would like to get a set of tires and rims and give this a go next year. If I am still considered novice I will enter regionals next year. If not I will run a season with WOSCA and see how competitive my car is with real race tires. WOSCA knows full well how bad my current tires slide!! LOL :D

Yes your experience counts. Also the 3 event limit is before the beginning of the regional season, so even if your old experience didn't count, you'ld have to wait until April next year.

But don't let that stop you from competing in the regionals.
The novices aren't actually in a different class. All novices compete in their respective classes, but there is an award for the top novice over the course of the year.

I just want to be honest here. I did compete in 1990 and that was it until this fall (2003) where I ran 2 events with WOSCA. I could still run one more time either this month or next year right? Where can I find this in the rule book or anywhere? Thanks for the help

If you ran two events this fall and one in 1990, you are no longer considered a novice. Period!

Andrew, don't worry about it. I recommend you keep your car in BS next year with race rubber and you are allowed one other point. I have not heard that there will be many BS class cars, check the other post.
I had a blast in the regional series and the bonus for you is how close you are to run some of the WOSCA events also. Great group of people, good clean competition.
Did I happen to mention that you should buy my r-compounds? :)

Bstock has some fine cars in that class. Being competitive in that class would be something special. I see it as a challenge and not something that would hold me back from entering. I'd be looking for the best setup I can achieve if I do it. However I would be more keen to run the WOSCA slaloms with good rubber and see how well the car works and get a season of practice under my belt. Some of the regions top drivers are here so it would be a good measurement of my skills as well.
Yes Doug you did mention your R-compounds, but did you remember the price I offered you?;) I'm not sure at this point wheather I will be buying an extra set of 17" rims or not. My rims are chipped and scratched and no rim refinisher I've seen yet can make em to the standard I'm looking for so I might get a brand new SS set and use my current ones for slalom tires. I'll know better in March as to what I'm gonna do. But I have the word out at KWF on those rubbers for ya.

???
CASC-OR Solo-2 Rule Book Section 4.1.2:
To be considered a novice, a competitor must not have competed in more than three (3) solo, road race, ice race or equivalent status events, OR have ever held any motrsport competition license from any jurisdiction, prior to the start of the current year championship.
The rule reads MORE than 3, not 3 or more.
Andrew is still a rookie as long as he doesn't do any more events.
Why are you always so bent on stopping WOSCA people from competing as rookies?

It should have said some in 1990, Sorry.
Marsh, it's got nothing to do with WOSCA novices.... Hey, I thought I wold be considered a novice in 2000, but it wasn't to be so I ran a bunch of events (enough to actually do the season) but didn't series register. I just did it for fun and experience.

Thanks for the help there guys. At this point I can safely say I will join WOSCA's events for next season and see how me and this car handle the new class and some real tires :D. These slaloms are only 1/2 hour from my home and we get 5 runs in a day. This combined with a school or 2 should help me a lot :) . Then I will see if I'm suited for the big game or not in 2005
Hey 33thSS
Don't hang things up yet, there's a whole winter series that WOSCA hosts. It's a blast to drive sideways in the snow around pilons.
Best of all, you don't have to worry about the Scoobs, they are all in a different class.
If I remember correctly, there are 3 classes for the winter Solo's:
FWD
RWD
AWD

Yeah I've seen that WOSCA runs slaloms in the winter. You won't be seeing this low mile SS out there though. Thanks but no thanks, I'll wait til spring time. But I just may help out a day at marshalling for them. :)

I plan on making any Wosca events i'm actually home for.
I've been on the road 13 out of the last 17 weekends...
It really kills your attendance to Saturday and Sunday events :(

I think Andrew wants to run rookie in regionals. If so then last Sunday was his 3rd event, so he's done until April. :(
