Solo I School: April 28 /29, 2001
Solo I is road-racing with greatly reduced risk factors; the sport consists of you, your car, and your driving ability – timed to 1/1000th of a second per lap.
Each race session consists of one warm-up lap, three ‘hot’ laps, and one cool-down lap. Typically, each race day opens with a warm-up session in the morning, three or four separate race sessions during the day, and usually ends with an open-lapping period late in the afternoon. All for one $85 entry fee. With 21 different car classes, Solo I has entrants driving Toyota Starlets, and others in Corvette Z06s – and with everything from Miatas to Mustangs in between! There is certainly a place for you and your car.
While safety is always a primary concern in Solo I, your car probably doesn’t require any special equipment to compete. If your car is road licensed, in good condition, and has not been extensively modified (and it’s not a convertible) you do not require either racing seatbelts or a roll cage.
The 2001 Solo I Series starts with the School (officially opening the season) followed by fourteen race dates (seven weekends) throughout the spring, summer and early fall. Competitors may enter as many – or as few – events as they wish, counting their best eight finishes towards their class Championship awards (and the overall Solo I title), which are presented at the annual banquet in early November. The Series moves between Cayuga, Mosport, and Shannonville, offering great variety and new challenges.
The Solo I School is a once-a-year opportunity for new competitors to receive two days of intense advanced driving technique training from some of the best instructors – and most accomplished Solo I racers – in the game. From the basics of understanding vehicle dynamics through to the finesse of high-speed cornering, this program covers all the bases, and does so with an entertaining mix of classroom and hands-on sessions. Utilizing the skid-pad, and both the Fabi and Nelson race tracks, students get hours of in-car opportunity to apply – and practice – the art of race driving. And they also get opportunities to pick up insider information and technical pointers from experienced Solo I racers by riding with them on the track – in the instructor’s own Solo I car.

$400* includes…
• two days of advanced driving instruction at the School
• Friday and Saturday night hotel accomodation in Belleville
• Saturday and Sunday morning continental breakfasts

* if you live in the Trenton / Picton / Kingston triangle and do not require the accomodation, you may enroll for $325. You’ll spend some gas money and miss the breakfasts, but you’ll still enjoy the school, the lunches and the BBQ…
How:
Because there are only 30 spaces available in the school, Registration is handled on a first come, first served basis, starting at 1:00pm on Sunday, April 1st, 2001.
1): download the Solo I School registration form from the Solo I website, (www.soloontario.com) or call the Registrar at (905) 828- 2918 and request that it be faxed to you.
2): Fill out the form completely and bring it to the Solo I open house at CSC Racing, 125A Harry Walker Pkwy., Newmarket, ON 905•954•0517 on April 1st between 1:00pm and 5:00pm

if you live outside the 905 / 416 area codes, fax it to CSC (905) 954•0523 during the Open House hours. If faxing, include your MasterCard or Visa information and signature on the form; school reservations will only be accepted if accompanied by full payment.
N.B.: If you are reading this after April 1st, and would like to participate, call the Registrar; there may still be space available. There will also be a waiting list, in case of cancellations.
What to Bring:
• A variety of clothing; it can be cold, wet, windy, hot, dry, sunny, or overcast at Shannonville in late April. However, it probably won’t snow…
• Your car;
1) Floormats, fuzzy dice, luggage, and all other loose items must be removed. Bring plastic bags to put things in; that way they’ll stay dry when left in the pits.
2) A recent oil and filter change is recommended, as is a full tank of gas (there’s a Sunoco station at the Marysville Road / Hwy. #401 interchange). Good tires, with plenty of tread. Compressed air is available at the track, but bring your own tire pressure gauge. Please have your brakes checked… including the brake fluid level.
• If you want beverages other than bottled water, bring them (and a cooler…). Lunch is supplied for both days, and there will be a barbeque on Saturday evening.
• a positive attitude and a willingness to listen carefully and learn. The purpose of the School is to make you safe on the track, and we will get you there step-by-step. Even if you already know you’re ready for F1, please be prepared to start with the basics to build a solid foundation of car control.
• A helmet. There are specific requirements for Solo I helmets (listed in the rule book), but there is no point in buying a new one unless you have already decided to race in the series. Therefore (for School purposes only!), we will accept both M- and SA-rated helmets, from ’90 on. To find the helmet rating, look inside, under the padding, for the orange Snell Foundation sticker. If you are borrowing a helmet, try to get one that is a comfortable fit. If all else fails, there may be a few loaners available at the School, but don’t count on it – call first and tell us that you haven’t been able to borrow one!

Shannonville Motorsport Park is located in Hastings County, between Belleville and Kingston, on the north side of Hwy. #2, south of Hwy. #401, east of Shannonville Rd. (and the village of Shannonville), and west of the Marysville Rd. Both Shannonville Rd. and Marysville Rd. are posted exits from Hwy #401. Approximate travel times are 2.5 hours from the middle of Toronto, 2.5 hours from Ottawa, 3 hours from Montreal
