i say more yield signs + runabouts

personally stop signs are a joke, because you have 4 kinds of people, those that blow by them, those that roll through them, those that have no idea what you are supposed to do at a stop sign, and those that actually wait 3 seconds.

you mix the 4 together and you get mucho aggravation through out a typical commute.

What Uxbridge wants to do, what are your thoughts?

Idiot proofing. You've driven through TO at rush hour. Do honestly think those sheep can handle an intersection where they have to actually think? It's the same reason we have a 100km/h speed limit on the highways. It's because we hand out licenses in crackerjack boxes and then have to dumb down the road rules to where the idiots that just barely passed their road tests can handle it.

The old man in the wheelchair definitely has it wrong... a cop at every intersection isn't feasible.

Roundabouts are great, but most of the retards here can't handle them... that's no reason not to put them in, though. People will learn over the coming years as they gain popularity.

On little streets like the one pictured there's nothing wrong with yeild signs. Little intersections on 10-house streets are a great place for a simple yeild. 90% of residential stop signs could be replaced with yeilds.

(Nice rant, Marsh)

Memories of learning to drive in the UK - where we knew every test route went down one street in town as that was where the ONLY stop sign was!

Yield signs, roundabouts, mini-roundabouts and lights where more positive control is required is the way to go.

OR, if in doubt, put lots of roundabout together...

Funnily enough it works.

OR two together, with a barrier between them

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=colchester,+essex,+uk&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=46.005754,106.523437&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Colchester,+Essex,+United+Kingdom&ll=51.891694,0.921996&spn=0.00055,0.001625&t=k&z=20

A big one and a small one

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=colchester,+essex,+uk&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=46.005754,106.523437&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Colchester,+Essex,+United+Kingdom&ll=51.892896,0.918061&spn=0.001101,0.003251&t=k&z=19

OR a really big one, with lanes so you don't have to use it at all!

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=colchester,+essex,+uk&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=46.005754,106.523437&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Colchester,+Essex,+United+Kingdom&ll=51.896816,0.891443&spn=0.001101,0.003251&t=k&z=19

Bear in mind these are all on the same road through the same town, more or less in sequence....keeps you thinking :)

Of course things can go bad, when you put two roundabouts together then build a road through them both as if they didn't exist:

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Colchester,+UK&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=46.005754,106.523437&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Colchester,+Essex,+United+Kingdom&ll=51.90089,0.895901&spn=0.001101,0.003251&t=k&z=19

(Yes, still the same town!)

Yes roundabouts are making a come back here. There is a new one in Picton.
My beef, traffic lights. I work afternoon shifts, so when I am on my way home at 01:30 I get stuck at least four traffic lights waiting..........for the green.....no f'n traffic in sight. I just know that if I stopped, then went through the red there would be the only cop in town there to see it.

Peterborough is addicted to traffic lights, Guild Electric must give huge kickbacks to city counsel. Some cites and towns turn the traffic lights to flash mode at night, not Peterborough. I swear there is a light that changes every time I reach a certain point on the road so I always get the red. A few times have driven into oncomming lane as I approach it and it does not change!

There's a roundabout on Windermere near where I live; it's been there for maybe 5 years now and even the people who live right beside it haven't figured it out yet.

Smoke, I hear you, but I'd bet a coffee that I've got it worse in St. Thomas. The traffic lights are all timed to work for heavy truck traffic from the auto industry that used to be in this town... except that there's no more auto industry and they run the same timing 24/7.

I was going to work early one morning and hit the usual 8 red lights trying to leave town (0 greens, to put that in prospective). One light at a mall turned red as I approached (no cars on the roat at all except me). The mall exit gets an advanced green, then shares green with the opposite side. Then the opposite side gets a turn light. Then the side opposite me gets an advanced green. Then, about 4 minutes after I stopped I get a green and drive another 200 yards to antoher red. I nearly ripped off my steering wheel.

I have notice that with st. thomas. it's impossible to get anywhere quick in that town. Maybe because of the dragway? lol

those multi traffic circles are retarded. especially the one with 5 of them in a bigger one. whatever engineer thought of that should be shot. Traffic circles are great when alone or rarely in pairs or tripples - but one way traffic on them is the key to proper use.

Our town has installed one out in the middle of nowhere (I have NO idea why - it just made it harder for 99% of the traffic on that intersection) and is planning on installing another ina much more sensible area that should actually speed flow up a TON since it's currently a 5 way intersection and everyone gets their own green.
