First Call for Instructors for the 2001 Solo I School on April 28 / 29 @ Shannonville

For 2001 the Solo 1 School moves to Shannonville, and expands to two full days of instruction. Both Fabi and Nelson circuits will be used, and the events are closed to all except students and instructors. There is NO open lapping day this year.

The school has also been downsized to a maximum of thirty students.

Seventeen Instructors are required, and in return for volunteering your knowledge and time you will receive:

• ninety minutes of private (Instructors only – no students) lapping on Fabi (Saturday)
• ninety minutes of private (Instructors only – no students) lapping on Nelson (Sunday)
• one night hotel accomodation at the Quality Inn, Belleville*
• complimentary continental breakfast.
• two lunches at the track
• Saturday evening BBQ

* Please note that we will pay one nights' accomodation per Instructor. Therefore, if you are prepared to share a room with another Instructor, both Friday and Saturday nights accomodation will be covered by OSO. If you wish to maintain a private room, the second nights' accomodation will be at our special rate of $71.

As you can see, with only seventeen instructors, you will get more real track time at this school than you do at a regular Solo I event!

The 2001 School will be a mix of classroom sessions, and hands-on driving. Saturday morning, the school will utilize the skid pad, plus driving exercises on the Fabi straight. The afternoon will include alligator lapping, then supervised lapping, and finally a session where Instructors take students on demo laps in the Instructors car.

Sunday morning begins with classroom sessions detailng how a Solo I event runs, and explaining the sports' infrastructure. Followed by an introduction to the Nelson circuit, and alligator lapping. After lunch there will a classroom presentation on safety, then the students will be divided up into X, Y, and Z groups and run through a mock Solo I event, including marshalling (by the students).

Instructors will get their private track time during the one-hour morning classroom sessions, plus the half-hour classroom session after lunch each day.

Instructors will receive a detailed curriculum at least one week before the school.

Instructors will be required to be present for both days, and we are planning to have a pre-school briefing on Friday night, in Belleville. Beer by TAC.

If you would like to volunteer, please contact Malcolm Elston via e-mail at carsport@globalserve.net. Include your name, number of years competing, type of car you will bring to the school, and preference regarding hotel accomodations.
