What are your fondest memories of 2003?

Was it the PITL season opener in the pouring rain, taking the back section at break neck speed, totally blind from the six inches of water splashing on the windshield...while Daryl risked his life taking pictures ten feet from the racing line?

Was it watching Tom almost flip his car at the Shootout? (I didn't get to see this BTW, so if there are any bootleg videos out there, I'd like to see them.;))

What stands out in your mind?

a few occasions, but first to mind is when i put the bug up on 2 wheels doing 100km/hr and going sideways through 3 gates and managing a clean run! :D

then there was blainsville, quebec. what a trip....

FTD at WOSCA regional SOLO II...

I had to earn that one.

Deciding to start out and meeting everyone.

Getting Steven to take a ride with me a guide me around the course. (Guide being a nice word for yell):D

Having Tony and Peter help me with my driving position, did that ever make a huge difference.

Working with Andrew to solve his suspension problem.

Getting JoeT to take my Focus for a run at a PITTL event and watching him beat my time by a full 3sec. Proved that the low times were in the car.

Battling with Stefan in the neon at the new rules trial, until he worked me and took a full sec off his time.

Watching my times get better at each event.

At the $2003 challenge.

After spending too long fixing an oil leak,I finally got my second run in after most had already run 4 times. As I came down the last straight, and through the trap,I saw everybody clapping, even the SCCA guys.I looked back to see what had happened, and saw that I set fast time by over 2 seconds.
Too bad it didn't last.

Two things:
Trip to CNAC in Slemon PEI, two (three) day's of speed.

That day at the Brampton centre when I focused, came into the stop box to hear people yelling my name, then finding out I had beaten Tom!

Winning the Director's Award at the SoloOntario Banquet was the highlight for me.

Also being a car slut at the end of the season, driving almost every car offered up while mine was ill!

Sure, I got pounded in the first round of eliminations by SoloZ, but what a rush it was!

Hmm I think I have that run of yours somewhere on tape. I could probably let you see it but I would need to know what class you will be running in ;)

The best is hard to choose.

-My first Regional FTD at the Bracebridge go-kart track was exciting. The track itself was a blast to drive.

-Our trip to Quebec for their provincial championships was fun, especially when we schooled them pretty good.

-Posting FTD during qualifying at the shootout, and managing to finish in 3rd behind pro's like Steven and Tony was great too.

-Also, taking the BSP championship late in the season was great.

The season was fantastic. It was my frist season of autoX and being part of the SPDA and the regional series made it very enjoyable. Guy like Tony Kloosterman and Joe Trinidad giving me pointers (sometimes regretfully :D ) was a resource that had alot to do with how I finished up the season.

I can't wait for next season to start, and I can't wait to get my next FTD!

I would say the trip to Quebec at their Provincial Championship at the Blainville track. What an amazing venue, I would love to try the big oval there some day to see what the top speed would be in my car.

I was classed with the "BIG GUYS" in my punny little BMW in P2 and I managed to be first in my class ahead of Joe T, and Ingo, and .... and...and... after the third run.
In the fourth run I notched a cone and finished third in P2 only 3 onehundreds behind Joe T and tenth overall out of about 130 competitors.

This was one terrific day.

Greg I too would love to see any video of that ride, looking out the windshield during it was kinda exciting for sure;) .
My fondest memories, well outrunning several fast guys in the largest class in the series by 2.5 seconds on the saturday of the double header was a good one(only to have Doug nail a beauty on sunday for the win:p )
Forcing Tony to make a mistake and snag the win on the last run at the mosport event is right up there as well.
Running my first ever solo1 in the pouring rain at shannonville was a blast(slow but fun!)3rd gear drifting thru turn 1 was a little tense as was the trying to find the right hander at the end of the fabi strait at 140km's while wiping the winshield with a rag(no defroster)on slicks was also memorable:D
Driving Renalto's b1 corolla for a class win and securing 3rd overall(thanks to Marshes hail mary run).
These are some highlights for me but certainly the entire season was filled with good times with good people, can't wait for solo1 next year-new car,new series and best of all new people to meet.

Many memories this year.
Blainville for sure.

Helping Pete during the year to get faster and faster, regretfully to the point where he beat me for the Bsp class win.....

But in revenge I spanked him in his car a couple times.....lol

The shootout......I wish more events were like that, a fun filled day.

The Wosca Winter series, ya Jay the Azenas didn't work that day....gambled and lost.....lol

Creating such a stir with my post on course design.....not sure if that was a highlight or lowlight coem to think of it...

I think we all had a blast, great competition and a lot of friendships made.

coming in 3rd in class ( ok ok, of 4) at TLMC in barrie. coming in 10th overall of 42, beating several r compound equipped cars.

beating an STI at the same event. coming close to steven tong in my pos jetta :D

trying so hard at the same event that i spun my car out. i didnt know it could oversteer like that :D

basically, my last event of the year was my best. i like ending a season (my first) like that.

see you all next year!

My best memory will probably be driving Eric Roberts blue Miata at the last PITL event. I had fun driving it all morning trying to beat Eric and Jamie in his red Miata which for that day had some RA1's on it. Late in the day I think the last run a bunch of the other Miata people decided to use a set of Yok AO32's from another Mita person and gave Eric and I one run each on the race rubber. Eric went first and nearly beat Jamie and then I had my run well it would have been an awesome run if I hadn't smacked a Pylon near the end of the course.

So I ended up Tied second overall with one of my favorite people of this sport Steve Tong. I don't know how close I was to missing that cone but holy smokes I might have made Taylor late for the movies that day hehehe :P

So thanks To Eric and all the other Miata people.

P.S. I think we had like five or more people doing the tire change it was awesome.

I have it on tape, and I've watched it many times. Then run looks as bad as it felt. But for some weird reason the car kept sticking and it was fast. (I hand timed the tape to confirm the time too).

I remember taking a whole evening to read through all those umpteen pages of discussions, but in the end I have to thank you for bringing it up in the first place, since Solo 2 was seriously becoming a Miata/Mini only sport.

I'm taking a gamble that next year courses will continue to be fast and open, and planning to run my RX-7 again; the lack of power steering was seriously affecting my times on the tight courses.

My fondest memory is getting to the final 4 in the b-class at the only Pro-Solo of the year. I was up against TMcG in the Mini, Tom in the Copper Corolla and I thought Jeff Graves in the Miata, but i'm not sure, and of course me in the 87 Silver Civic. I actually put up a good fight, but was beat. Having the throttle stick at the end of the drag portion is definately a memory, but not really a fond one, the good part was that I got back on course, finished cleanly, and still won! Getting 2nd FTD behind Anthony in the Fiat at the HADA event at the beginning of the year stands out too. (Driving Al B.'s ITR at Cayuga for Solo 1 would top the list, but I figured you were looking for AutoX stories.)

D.

my favorite events are the prosolo style events..

going head to head on two separate SIMILAR courses are wicked..

they're fun to compete in.. and they're just as fun to watch

We were screw'd with the second event because of the problems retailers had this year..

but there are plans for a guaranteed "best of 2004" in the works

I enjoy seeing all the players from the different clubs coming down for these events.... get a bit of flava from every club..

the few threads were heated, emotional and good reads.

i miss the supercar challenge the vette guys used to run

and enjoy seeing the newer guys getting bit hard by the cone bug, and the newer clubs happening because of the power of the web.. eg. the subaru guys

I guess it's a toss up between FTD in a stock car at PITL #4 by almost a half second (that includes besting Paul. :) or Taking the Eastern Champion Trophy in D/SS at driving someone elses FWD, 200,000kms springed, worst brakes in the world on near corded and corded tires, on steelies on a car that was only in D/SS for delSol seats.

Worst moment would be eliminating myself (AGAIN) at the ProSolo. Fricking end-coned a win. Grrr.

And yes Ryan.. I had to miss out on my movie. Which... turned out to be the Viewers Choice of the Festival.. DAMNIT. :P Grrr. Shame we couldn't have done it right with you in your car.

Not in order of importance:

1) Picton: The guy in the Euro Capris, questioning the organizser what the "Family Sedan" was doing in CSP, and being told just to stand by and watch...

2) SPDA - Getting acknowledged as an organization by our peers.

3) Watching SPDA Gang (biased) finish in the top spots of their respective classes.

4) Double Header Weekend: Finding out that it was Steven T, in the Camaro competing in CSP.

5) Drifting Day at TLMC

6) Meeting all you nice people.. :p (sucky)

7) Blainville Quebec.. That was a blast!!! Raising the eyebrows of the locals.

So is the SPDA going to take a run at SOLO 1 in 2004 or just reinforce the strong competitiveness displayed in 2003? HADA needs some competition…..
Anyway, wish your club the best.

Fondest memories.........

i only did two S2's this year. And you know what, besides remembering the course layouts and having to put some rear tires on to be compeditive with Pete L. i don't really remember to much.

Hey Chris,

There is strong interest in Solo 1 from a couple of the Team Members, so you may see one or 2 people attend.

The premise of the SPDA is training new Scoobaholics into the sport of Solo 2 and Solo 1.

Building a team (sponsored) of experienced competitors

Maintaining an active feeder crowd to graduate to the sponsored team.

So as the SPDA matures, there will be proliferation of Scoobs into the various forms of Solo, and other motorsports.

That's the plan that we are trying to make happen.

hada vs spda.. there were more folks in hada vs. a handful
of scoobyguys comparing starting out numbers.... (yes no?)

give em some time.. this group just branched from the "other club" just a while ago.

its great to have a lot of people.. but more impressive when more of them get involved in organizing and helping out.. sharing the load.

there are only a few ACTIVE RX7/Mazda Sportscar Owners club that are involved.. in solo II

Luckily there are a ton of other brothers who help us out on a regular basis

You're more than welcome. That was a pretty cool day, with the whole A-stock championship coming down to 4/10ths of a second - and the dual-car, pit-crew style tire change was really memorable. I'd like to thank Ray for giving me my first taste of R-compounds, but that would be like thanking the school-yard dealer for your first hit of smack! :D

Other memorable moments:
-Miataboi's 3-spin day at Mosport (and getting 'em all on video)
-third gear at Picton
-posting my personal FTD at Regional #7 - after putting everything back in my trunk and lowering my tire pressures back to street

The 13"ers FROM Ray's car... ONTO Eric's car... was probably the most memorable / most FUN I had all year... I didn't even compete in that event! Just stirring up sheit! (surprise!)
(tryin' NOT to help out Ryan, nor AlienDNA... but trying to SCREW over Taylor!!!) ;)

The Mosport loops... not fun... but a GOOD lesson...
Had a hoosier sidewall blowout the event / day before... so had a spare set mounted on extra rims... new they weren't optimal... but thought they were good enough...

WELL... good hoosiers on front and what turned out to be SHOT ones on the back... = not good corner stability on a previously balanced car... The first half of the course was ok... it was mostly transitional and accel... the looseness didn't hurt at all on the pin-turn...

BUT... the sweeper coming back around to start the second loop = me finding out how SHOT the rear tires were! That was BAD!

Ended up only getting 1 run in where I didn't massively lose the tail... and that was with me CREEPING it around the corner... just trying to get a clean run it!

Turned out... it was still good enough to win class and get 100 pts... and with only 1 run that was spinless... I had an impressive backup %age of 83%

:D :p

I agree.....not just because I won my class at that event....but because that was a classy thing for HADA to do.
Also taking the reporter out for a ride in my car, having him step out of the car and say...."wow, that was amazing".
