Well, after some patient waiting, I've got my self a 1994 BMW 325is. Stock for this year (except rubber and brakes) cause I blew my budget :o

So with Dave P hopefully jumping to GT2, noone will stop me! Muhahahahaha *cough* *cough* *cough*

ps ... someone help me learn to drive this thing!

pps ... anyone have some cheap e36 struts (the car currently has Monroes  )

Bruce P drivers Dave P's car........... :p

i think you guys have bigger things........errr smaller things to worry about. And since nobody wants to play in GT4 with me i'll have to beat GT3 to get points.

The CRX will be back and faster then ever. :D

Don't worry Krispy, if you're still in GT4 you'll get to play with my Nissan 240SX next year. :)

Sigh... what have I gotten myself into!!!

philip....lay the smack down on that evil krispy.....

nissan power!!!!!!!

shows how much the rules have changed over the last few years....my car when it was NA was basically the same as yours but would be racing directly against type R's

all i had different was an ECU

i think you should be able to do well.....58's on nelson anyway...

krispy what do you do on nelson?

A nearly stock 240 vs. ITR??? That would be interesting.

Anyway, I guess I'll have to sharpen up my driving skills...

Seat time, seat time, seat time... :)

You have underestimated the mighty black Mini thats going to be cleaning up in GT3. Get prepared for the turbo scream fading in the horizon my friend. :p

Seriously though....very nice purchase! You'll have to post some pics.

PS. Yeah, I'm gonna need some driving help too. I was seriously thinking about retaking the school. It seems like a good way to ease into the new speed and get familair with the car. Not to mention good refresher with lots of one on one. Want to take it together?

I've already decided on taking the driving school this year. Being a noob, I have to start somewhere. :)

Yeah, I might take the school again ... not sure yet. I'm definitly taking the BWM advanced driving school at Mosport in the spring ... can't beat that deal for seat time and education factor!

Congratulations to the purchase of your new Bimmer. I am sure you will have plenty of fun with it.

If you are looking for some good advices and sources for parts to upgrade your 325, you should join us at a BMW CC Ottawa meeting. I guess you are from Ottawa since you are a member of the MCO. We have a few very active and experienced members with lots of time on Tracks and some excellent sources for BMW Parts. Information about our meetings can be found on
http://bmwccottawa.org/

As for myself, I have an old (85) 325es with some modifactions, and I am in the process of changing the suspension, bushings, control arms etc. for the new season. My plan for the new year will be to get my feet wet in SOLO I and continue also in SOLO II.

ps ... someone help me learn to drive this thing!
So we could maybe help each other in the learning process. I think I will end up in GT3 as well. I guess you have already done some SOLO I, not me. I was Rookie Champion at the MCO SOLO II 2003 season.

Send me a email, I can give you some sources for parts, or maybe see you at the next MCO Meeting on Tue. Jan 06, or at a BMW CC Ottawa meeting (third Wednesday of the month).

Welcome to Bavaria!

It'll be a blast having another E36 on the grid.

You should be shopping for a set of 17*8 wheels for the track tires, and definitely think about shocks & springs if you can afford the points.

An M3 brake upgrade is free (PIPs that is).

Christian ran 1 season on Bilsteins only, then did his entire suspension the following year. I've got my Euro M3 suspension in my car. Too bad a street suspension is costing me 8 PIPs. I was going to put in Ground Control coil-overs but bought an M3 shell instead. Watch out SGT3 in 2005!

Dave
01-06-2004, 11:15 PM
A M3 shell, eh Rob? Wow, that's good stuff! So you're going to leave your 328 as is and prep the M3 for '05?

Nissan Racer
01-06-2004, 11:23 PM
How many prep points for coilovers?

Rob McAuley
01-06-2004, 11:25 PM
You've got it.

The M3 is complete except for engine, front seats, mirrors, and a bit of trim. The previous owner started stripping it before he lost interest in the project. I was going to purchase his brakes and move them into my car, but given that it would only be for one season, I'll hold off.

I pick up my 328is from the shop tomorrow after Sue's fender bender at Mosport. If the suspension is straight and true, then the car stays as is. If something is bent, then I may just have to get those coil-overs.

Now I just have to convince Sue that she needs a pick-up truck instead of a new 5-series.

Dave
01-06-2004, 11:36 PM
Rob, you mean a pick-up AND a trailer, don't you? :p

Pat, coilovers are permitted when you claim the 4 PIPs for springs, though if you buy a complete coilover shock/spring combo obviously you also have to claim the 2 PIPs for the shocks. If you run non-stock alignment along with a coilover suspension, then you've got 1 more PIP to claim, for a grand total of 7. Math is fun!

Already got the rims .... 17x8, and I have a whole stack of tires (225/45 and 235/40) ready to go!

As the car sits now, it's at 66.1 PIPs. I can afford shocks and stay in GT3, or go into GT2 and do more work. I think budget will determine the final outcome, but I think I really need to get rid of those monroes :)

Does a replacement rear shock mount cost any PIPs, if it is aftermarket (GC)? Mine is shot, I need to replace those for sure. How about swapping the steering wheel for a MOMO without airbag?

Good luck with the M3, Rob ... what year is it? Just out of curiosity, why not just swap a 3.2L and the suspension stuff into the 328? How is the M3 shell different (unless it's an e46)?

PS ... I'll buy the parts you don't use :D

Dave
01-07-2004, 12:09 AM
Arek, if the GC shock mount gives some sort of performance benefit over the stock mount then you'd have to declare it. The steering wheel is a free mod, however.

Rob McAuley

The M3 is an E36. I ended up buying it when I was talking to the owner about buying a bunch of parts (front brakes, rear axles and brakes, etc.).

The M3 chassis is supposed to have a couple of beefier attachment points, and of course the M3 suspension.

Apparently I need to jack up the springs to get the car into Canada - it is a '95, and was too low to be allowed into Canada. I'm not sure how the suspension differs from the '94 Euro suspension that I've got in my car.

The '94 was allowed into Canada, but not the US (engine emissions?). The '95 was allowed into the US, but not Canada (detuned engine). From '96 on, the M3 was the same for both countries (other than day-time running lights and child seat restraint hook).

I'll likely be selling off the suspension and interior trim.

My 328is will revert back to daily driver status, and this will become the track car. Maybe I should get a Datsun truck motor and add a turbo.

You mean GT-3?
Could be I plan to put coilovers on my car, especially since there are not alot of options out there for B15 Sentras, and that alone pretty much maxes me out for GT-4. If I do ANYTHING else, I go to GT-3. I had a list of other mods I wanted to try too, but right now I am sitting at 58%, add coilovers and I goto 64% (as I understand the PIP's) (since I am in one class above Starting class I get the Starting class+1 freebies right?
Lets see if I have this right
I was planning to:
1) remove the back seat [free under starting class]
2) install a racing front seat (driver only)[free under starting class+1]
3) bushing set [1 point]
4) coilovers [6 points]
5) non stock alignment [1 point]
6) intake [free - Starting class+1]
7) underdrive water pump pully [free starting class+1]
8) Flywheel [1 point]
or
9) cams [3 points]
10) I'd also like a full race sr20 head, but I think I am already being ambitious with my wallet and the listed mods :)

With 1 through 7 I am already 1 point over, so I might have to forego the bushing set (no point going to full adjustable coilovers and not using the alignment point) and stay in GT-4 or bite the bullet and move up to GT-3.
Any other ideas? I'd like to install the Nismo bushing set too, but that puts me in GT-3, at which point I might as well use the 4 remaining points there for something else...like 3 for cams and maybe 1 for rear adjustable roll bar. Theres also a front suspension tie bar from Nismo, but I believe thats a freebie
Or am I completely wrong?

ice/solo racer
01-10-2004, 01:02 PM
I guess I misread your earlier post and thought you were coming to play in class with me!
So your only at 58% eh?,thats nothing-I'm still trying to keep under 85% so I don't get bumped up another notch. The new option for engine swap cars helps me quite alot as my car is heavier than stock with the new engine and cage while I was taking some lightnening points that was making it impossible to improve the car without running sgt2 or even sgt1(not good at all).
IMO I'd do as much suspension work as possible and then if you have points left add some power.I'd rather have a fun car in the turns and read a book down the fabi strait then plow around the turns and blast down the straits-of course if you have both.....

Nissan Racer
01-11-2004, 08:03 PM
Well I think I'll go with the coilovers and non stock alignment and stay in GT-4, theres more than enough competition there, never mind moving up....but a little more HP never hurt :D

Caster/Camber plates are part of the prep points for 6.2.4 Mods to shocks/struts...right?

Dave
01-15-2004, 10:03 PM
yes you can install them under Section 6.2.5 when you change your springs but if you run non-stock alignment settings you need to declare this under Section 6.2.3. We actually let people install camber/caster devices with springs so that they can return their alignment to OE specs without having to take points to do so.

Nissan Racer
01-15-2004, 10:07 PM
I have 8 points to work with so currently my plan is, coilovers (2 for struts, 4 for springs), non-stock alignment (1 point) and likely an intake for the last point (bushings were a consideration, but I don't think they are avail. yet.
