An extensive tour of the new GM Automotive Centre of Excellence (ACE):
Built on the campus of the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) in Oshawa, ACE is the first commercial research, development and innovation centre of its kind in Canada. The 16,300 sq-metre, fivestory centre houses one of the largest and most sophisticated climatic wind tunnels on the planet, capable of wind speeds of 240 km/h, temperatures ranging from -40°C to 60°C and relative humidity ranging from 5 to 95%. The wind tunnel features a yawing chassis dynamometer, a solar array and is also hydrogen capable for fuel cell development. ACE also has a climatic test cell with a four-post shaker to test vehicle suspension and body durability as well as a multi-axial simulation table (MAST) in a semi-anechoic chamber to test products for structural durability and noise and vibration. ACE will be open for
business in early 2011.
