oh yes...and those "green" cars just aren't when one considers the total environmental impact of...mining the nickel in Canada then sending it to China for processing, mining the cobalt from Zambia or Afghanistan- just red it in Maclean's-yeah, surprised me too- you heard of blood diamonds...now think "blood minerals"), and who knows what other minerals goes into mining the battery parts.
I'll keep on with good 'ol suck/squish/bang/blow. besides, any "green" car out there now is sorely lacking in driving dynamics- at least within my budget. Most have been developed to keep pace with environmental policy. I love these cars I see which grow a leaf or some such nonsense when one drives "efficiently". I'll wager that when one considers the entire impact (from base components to the end life span)of the production of a traditional gasoline/diesel burning vehicle and a hybrid, the result would be even. Maybe i'm just full of it.
Maybe smarter members than me can correct my understanding of this.
off soap box now

The EcoBoost looks impressive based on some of the testing video but it adds about $2k to the 2011 F-150; I’d rather just have a V8.
And electric steering; well they can keep that.

Best you can do is a long-service lightweight. Gimme an old CRX HF and I'll show you minimized impact.
That said, if our fleet consisted largely of solar-paneled electrics plugged into a decentralized power grid, we'd sooner wean off coal and nuclear. No benefit if these cars were as disposable as our current crop, tho.

gasoline works
just not in north america
the day we see 600cc twin turbo engines with 5 catalytic converters powering cars that are sized properly to the populations needs...
