I just ordered a set for the Focus 205/50/15 for $133 each from tirerack.com

Tire Info
ECSTA V710 radials are DOT-legal competition tires developed for drivers who want Kumho's highest level of performance for dry track conditions. Compared to the VictoRacer and ECSTA V700 tires, ECSTA V710 radials are designed to provide quicker “turn-in” response, as well as increased traction and cornering speeds. In addition to looking like pro-level racing tires, ECSTA V710 tires perform like them as well, trading longevity for performance. Achieving the best performance requires that fresh ECSTA V710 tires be used as their performance level will drop off after a typical race weekend’s use.

On the outside, the ECSTA V710 tires mold a high-grip tread compound (that runs with tread temperatures of around 250-degrees Fahrenheit when pushed to the limit) into an asymmetric tread design utilizing a “slick” tread surface with just two circumferential grooves on the inner half of the tread. This maximizes the rubber-to-road contact to increase grip. Beginning with a tread depth of 4/32-inch, they will not require shaving, however they will benefit from heat cycling before competition. On the inside, the ECSTA V710 features radial construction that uses two slightly angled nylon carcass plies (with one ply wrapping around the bead and returning high up the sidewall to provide three actual sidewall plies). The belt package consists of twin lightweight steel belts reinforced by a spirally wrapped circumferential nylon cap ply under the tread.

Kumho ECSTA V710 tires feature subtle black letters. They are W-speed rated and available in 50-, 45-, 40 and 35-series sizes for 15" to 18" wheel diameters

NOTES: While ECSTA V710 tires have an inflated shape with rounded shoulders to complement camber challenged cars, they still benefit from vehicle alignments that offer significant negative camber.

While Kumho ECSTA V710 radials meet DOT requirements, they are not appropriate for highway use as the expected miles of wear from their racing tread compounds is greatly reduced.

I'm excited about these tires for sure.
$133 is about $170 CAD, not too bad I suppose.

What scares me about these tires is their high wear rate. I don't think they will be competitive half-way through a season of solo 2. And I think that a lapping/solo 1 day will greatly reduce their life if you're focusing on solo 2.
Anyone else have thoughts on this?
When did they tell you to expect their arrival?

Why didn't you buy them from Wheel and Tire Zone, our local Kumho dealer and series sponsor?

Damn I didn't know they sold Kumho tires. I was told they wouldn't ship until the middle of next week I wonder if I could still cancel my order.

I'm always up for supporting a series sponsor!

They are reported to be similar in grip and wear to the Hoosiers. In other words, very sticky and short lived.

Nonetheless, I think you could get a full season depending on how many events you run

I'm always having this problem with all Kumhos. I'm now thinking I might just buy two sets and sell the first set as used mid season.

The issue with the new 710 s may not be wear rate but # of heat cycles. Hoosiers are notorious for being shot and hard before they wear out and in Solo 2 you do not put much wear on the tires. OTOH I'm not sure how hot you get the tires. My experience and the experience of others ( see my post on the SCCA forums tech section recently) is that you can't tell a lot by the look of the tire. Apparently the old Hoosier RS 303 is good for 10 heat cycles and the newer RS304 is good for 16. This doesn't work for me in Solo 1 where (especially with my heavy car) I get 6-7 heat cycles per day.

Personally I still like the old Victoracers ( Hey, dinosaur tires for a dinosaur car). They seem to withstand more heat cycles than Hoosiers anyday even if when brand new they aren't as fast. My concern is that Kumho will stop making them even though they seem to be much more popular than the v700 ecstas ( check out the ratings of comp tires at Tirerack.com). If they do stop making the Victoracer I will not be able to afford to keep myself in V710s and may have to go to Toyos which are certainly NOT cheap.

would have loved to, back when the new v700's came out, i was all excited to use the solo certificate that everyone received at the banquet.

When I tried to order tires (235/45/13's) listed on the site for 175.00 i was told they were not available period.

called another popluar tire place in scarborough and was told the same answer.

called kumho canada.. same thing

ended up going to a place in milton and bought them there

Did manage to get in on a group buy at wtz tire availabilty was terrible and ended up getting es100's (poo btw)

(MX's weren't available)
(Falkens same thing )

tried these new es100's from a few reviews and recommendations

afer having them for a while, i'd never buy these again, or recommend es100s

(yoko had/has a 30 day trial, but due to circumstances, i didn't bother exchanging them)

ymmv

dt

ps. andrew's got a nice shop, and great equipment, I'd buy my next set from them in a heartbeat
