View Full Version : Are there "time brackets" for G70+ cars?

This is directed toward the people running in the G70+ category ... on the VARAC site, I saw a reference in the rules changes section to the G70+ cars running in time brackets. Is this done the same way the GT cars run in the regular CASC events, meaning that the cars are scored in groups separated out by lap times for the specific track?
As you might have guessed, I'm thinking about putting together a car to run in the G70+ category, and am trying to get the lay of the land so to speak.
thanks,
Ed N.

To best get an answer to your question send an e-mail to VARAC's Race Director, Stefan Wiesen. His contact information can be found on the VARAC website at the link below:

These are the 2010 groups published by VARAC last year. These are Mosport times no times were published for SMP.
G70+
CLASS H: under 1:31:00
CLASS E: under 1:36:00
CLASS F: under 1:41
CLASS G: 1:41 and over

Vic & Bill, thanks for the responses. I had actually sent a message to Stefan on another matter, and he mentioned that the VARAC Race Director this year is Del Bruce, so I guess they haven't had a chance to get the site updated for 2011 yet.
Those Mosport times give me a good idea of where I would be with the car I'm looking at.
thanks,
Ed N.

Hi Ed
The 2011 VARAC rules will be finalized at tomorow nights BOD and then be posted shortly thereafter. We do use the bracket system for G70+ and the breakouts posted are correct for last year. If approved the H class breakout will change to under 1:32 for 2011 to bring it in line with the GT sprint classes. We do not post breakouts for other tracks as Mosport is our main venue. Once your car is classed for Mosport you keep that class for the year regardless of the track.

Thanks Del. I certainly don't have to worry about the H class times with the car I'm looking at doing. I think that if I ever went that quick around Mosport, I would probably crap myself. :p
thx,
Ed N.
I've been around Mosport in the PASSENGER seat of a ROAD CAR, with a very notable driver in approx 1:30. 265 K on the backstraight. Hands folded lightly on my chest!!!!! Trying to prove a point to some people in the pit lane and I did.

How many cars are out that would be running in the 1:40ish range? That's likely where my project car will end up with the current plans. Trying to get an idea if I am going to have some others to race with, or if I would just be driving around, getting lapped by the fast folks.
thanks,
Ed N.

Browse though MyLaps on some of last years G70 races to get an idea.

VARAC also used to have a results list on their site showing what cars were in what class.
In any case G70 usually has cars running between 1:30 and 1:50. You will always have someone to race with.

What are you bringing out?

Doug, I'm making a deal on a super clean 89 Mustang GT that is in "roller" status right now. Needs a trans, which I have, and the engine gone through because it has been sitting for a while with no intake unfortunately. The idea is to build it to SCCA Escort Endurance series specs, I've always had a thing for the Saleen General Tire Mustangs, if you remember those cars.
Guess I never did a proper intro on here ... back in the early 90s before the time brackets I raced an 87 Mustang in SS/GS, and did a bit of Firehawk in other cars. More recently I've been instructing at various schools including with the Solo I gang, and I've done a LeMons and a Chumpcar race in the last few years. My old car coming through 9:

Working on it Mark ... have to wait for the snow to melt down a bit so that I can get to the car, which is sitting in the backyard of the current owner's mother. :p
So far I have springs, shocks, and a set of wheels waiting for it.
cheers
