I have been contemplating purchasing this car.

I know some of you have experience with these cars. Assuming the overall condition of the car is "average" and there are no issues, is this a good price to start negotiating down from? The 4 yr warranty is an aftermarket one. The current owner says he bought 3 mths ago then changed jobs and got a company car.

In my research, there seems to be some weak engine/transmission mounts in them and a very touchy clutch, especially in the '06, otherwise they seem to be a decent bet repair-wise except for the blown turbo issue some have mentioned on this forum.

I already have a fun car for solo events, so this would end up being a DD for me. What do you folks think?

Thanks in advance for any insight.

I had 4 of them lol and loved them all. Things to watch for:

Clutch on early to mid productiion 2006's there was a TSB for that
2.3's had a habit of kicking rods through blocks
Turbo's had oil consumption issues
They go through brakes quickly, rotors wrap when used on track
They go through tires quickly the 215/45/18 is too small for that weight of car
Check out a car proof, lien search ownership history and if you cant get one DONT BUY THE CAR
Depending on who the aftermarket warranty is through it may not be worth the paper its written on if it doesnt cover "high tech" things.
There were also 2 different "flashes" for the computers because of severe detination and then no boost at all. After the 2nd flash was done the boost came in much softer than before.

Now I would listen to Al as he knows his Mazda's. Regarding durability, it is important to remember that Al tends to "use" his demo's to prove their complete durability, :D.

I spent 4-5 months looking at every Mazdaspeed 6 that came on the market. From last July til November, when I ended up getting a 2010 Mazdaspeed 3 instead.

From what I saw, you should be able to get a 2007 with lower mileage for roughly the asking price of the one you posted. From my research I pretty much decided I wanted to stay away from the 2006 model year since a lot of small things (many of which Al mentioned) were improved or fixed for 2007.

The issue I found is almost every single one that I went to look at didn't have a clean car proof (probably why people were getting rid of them when leases expired).

Best advice I can give is take your time and be patient, also occasionally you will find one pop-up where the owner bought the 7yr/160k extended warranty, might be worth it if you can find one like that to spend a little extra (I think this extension cost about $2200 from the dealer when new).

Already checked the Carproof, it's clean. Would love to find an '07 but have not seen one around these parts.

I actually really want to pick one of these up in a year or two as a daily driver.

As for the issues with the turbo's, the upgraded units from BNR are bolt-on and surprisingly cheap.

I've got an 07, titanium grey, loaded.
just rebuilt the motor and turbo
new shocks, new wheel bearings
mazdaspeed cold air intake, mazdaspeed lowering springs
rims don't have a scratch on them

I'd be interested to sell. Tired of having 2 vehicles....will move to a truck as a daily driver..and tow vehicle.

Let me know if interested.
Car in Ontario.

I spent time in a Speed 3 on the street and the track, the car desperately needs 4wd in my opinion. What i found was driving with the traction control off all you got in 1st and most way through second (on OEM rubber) was wheel spin, with the traction control on it didnt go anywhere. I guess depending on your age group the Speed 3 is cool etc. but the Speed 6 was definately much more refined. Quite honestly if i had to spend my own money and onlyhave one car to drive to work everyday and play on the track with I would go out and find a 2007 Speed 6

Al is right, after much contemplating on other cars over the years, I am still driving the 06 MS6 that Al sold me originally. Can't get much better without spending a bunch more money.

I would go out and find a 2006 Speed 6 with an original factory ECU if I were you.
