Let's discuss this rule here where someone can do a search on " roll cage " and find it.
Who in SP strongly objects to this upcoming rule? Is there any way around it for people that don't want to put roll cages in their shiny new Z06/Viper/C5/whatever?

If a3000LB 2001 car hits the wall at 80 Mph the result should be the same
regardless of model But take a 20 to 25 year old car and the result would probably be
different . Mabey the rule should be by the year. Hopefully todays cars are more
crash worthy.

I think they disintigrate better, to save the cabin the intertial force. While that sounds bad, it's preferable to the consequences of the car not crushing and allowing you to do that. :)
However, a roll cage is for the car in the process of rolling. To my knowledge, no car - big or small - has adequate roll protection for competition driving.
I expect to be hitting speeds of 215km/h down the back stretch of Shannonville this year, and the last thing I want to do is roll my car trying to hit the exit turn without a cage in it. The conversation's moot for me, really, but I am interested in it.
i like having a roll cage and a 4 point seat belt, i feel safer

My question is: is a six-point cage going to be enough if this rule is imposed..? I don't want to put a 300 pound 12-point welded cage in my car. :(

Shaman, a safe bet is to look at the roll cage rules for OCC or CGTCC. If they're good enough for those series, then I'm sure they'll be more than good enough for Solo 1.

Take a look Appendix O of the 2001 Race Regulations (http://www.casc.on.ca/files/2001RR.pdf) off the CASC-OR web site for detailed description.
its alright steve...with that heavy v8.... an extra 300lb roll cage won't matter

It sure will. 3 tenths of a second on the back stretch of Fabi. Maybe even more.
i am just torturing you a little bit :)
i was watching a show on the weekend it had a chevy "yakov" 427 and it weighed in at........700lbs
some sort of big block the muscle cars had that some guy was suping up...
sounded nice though.....

Doesn't STREET prepared mean prepared STREET driven car? I am going to take mods off my car to be in CSS2 and out of CSP (for now) and my mods are not nearly finished for this my daily driver. I sure do not want a roll cage in my daily driver, I do not want my daughters to have to wear helmets in the back seat when I take them to school, so they don't wack their heads on it when I go around corners. Putting a roll cage in my car would make it pretty much my dedicated race car. Isn't that what mod classes are for? Whats next, trailered Street Prepared cars?
Well, thats my opinion.

I trailer mine. I hate breaking things hours from home. :)
But, I agree with you. I have two unused back seats (well, mostly unused) so a nice six-point won't really bother me too much at all. Others are not so lucky.
There's no need to convert your car until you hear the ruling on this, though.
i trailer mine too...it is to risky if the car breaks down.... my car will also be driven on the street this year.....even though it is gutted, and will roll bar....and with no interior...and running on race gas...my car is in csp as well.....i have always loved smoking mustangs with NOS off the light :)
i think any production based car platform the highest rating should be street prepared...thus should have unlimited points
in my mind modified cars should be tube frame dedicated race cars...

I both agree and disagree. I can promise you that I could show up with a street prepared car, allowed unlimited mods, that could be driven on the street and have 850hp, weigh 2800 pounds, have as much tire real estate under it as a Semi truck, and scare children from 50 yards.
That would be one mightily dangerous car, and frankly it would raise the bar of ASP so high that I can't see how any but the most affluent could compete in that class.
There has to be checks and balances. My personal thought is that ASP should comprise any car that is street plated and insured, and does not exceed a certain power:weight ratio. My car is just about at the limit of what I'd call a street drivable car @ 550hp and 3100 pounds. (yes, it's significantly different than it was last year).
yeah...i think that would be a good way as well...
power to weight would be a great factor....
i think that you could calculate alot of things in solo 1 with power to weight..... and leave the handling factor as the unknown...
