View Full Version : Volunteers needed for Speedorama Show!

Attention all competitors!

Sure its the last minute, but we've just found out that we'll be in the Speedorama show this weekend (January 23, 24 and 25) at the National Trade Centre, in Exhibition Place.

SoloOntario is organizing the booth, which will promote all CASC-OR activities and be staffed by volunteers, so please consider donating some of your time!

Our reason for attending the show is to promote our sport and to attract new competitors. Growing the sport will benefit us all, since it will allow us to attract more sponsors, help keep per competitor costs down, and increase competition thereby making the series' that much more fun for all of us.

Thanks to the 2003 ActionFront Data Recovery Labs Solo 1 Champion, Chris Paczynski, for offering the use of his winning Honda CRX DX / SI as the show car. Rumour has it that it will feature a new, spiffy, paint job! As a special bonus, the ever-modest Chris Paczysnki will be on hand to sign autographs (at least some of the time)!

We need volunteers to man the booth in either the morning or afternoon of Friday, Saturday and Sunday and for setting up the booth on Thursday night and packing it up on Sunday evening.

Show hours are 10:00AM to 10:00PM Friday and Saturday and 10:00AM to 6:00PM on Sunday.

If you're willing and able to help, please e-mail me at solo1dir@casc.on.ca and let me know what day/time you can make it, and I'll make sure you get a pass.

Thank you!

Christian Sorensen

Chris,
I don't mind getting the drinks, I just need your Visa Card. Ah don't sweat it, I still have the number on file from last year!

What are you putting in the VCR?

Did Perry take the tape last year or do I still have it... in fact, what was run last year?

I wasn't there last year. As I undertsand you still have it, or whomever cleaned up. If anyone besides yopurself, it would be Chris who may have it.
Please seek it out and if possible, burn another copy.
Otherwise put a British touring Car Video on.
:D

I seem to recall someone sliding it over to me, then I slid it back telling whomever that "it's yours". Since it was made for Solo Ontario. No point in me having it.

But this would have been over a year ago, probably more like two I think.

I'll take a look but I seriously doubt I have it.

But you said "burn" a copy... is there going to be a DVD player there or something?

Shoulda posted this last night but I was too burned out....

Volunteers, Pick up your passes at the Show Office, close to the South West corner of Hall B.

They are in an envelope marked "SOLO 1"

I know I know ... this is a booth for the entire CASC-OR, it is just that the show organizer lets us in for free each year under the guise of 'those Solo guys'....

Chris Paczynski's car is in the middle of Hall C, next to a hydraulic orange del Sol and a gussied up Ford Ranger.

There are colour flyers for CASC-OR and b+w flyers for Solo 1 there now, and shortly we'll have Solo 2 flyers plus Solo 1 School flyers and registration forms.

The TV is set up and the video is ready ... just make sure that it keeps going!

If any problems come up, feel free to call me on my cell at 647-271-4043.

Christian Sorensen

The tape runs for 2 hours, so check it every couple hours and rewind (or just hit play again.. depends on the VCR deck).

Christian Sorensen

In addition to Taylor's entertaining Solo1/Solo2 video, there will also be a new Solo 2 video from Wes there!

so ....

please SWITCH the tapes to give appropriate representation to both disciplines, er, divisions.

Look, it could be worse.... what will happen when ice race and road racing gets their act together and have promotional videos?

Mix tape. One tape with all the videos in order. Or a joint CASC-OR video... ugh, I don't even want to think about how much work that would be... That's what I'm going to do for WOSCA. We've got Solo-2, lapping and road racing footage all going into one clip.

Better yet a DVD!. Run a generic single video with all the sports. If someone shows specific interests or asks questions, you can skip to the specific promo for that discipline.

Taylor
01-24-2004, 03:24 PM
I don't see why Solo should work on promoting non-solo sports. There's plenty of work that could be done for Solo Ontario that would directly benefit Solo Ontario.

That said, any time CASC-OR sets up a booth, they should have a generic be-all video (Obviously DVD is the better choice but that means CASC has to buy a $59 DVD player). No one would ever have to rewind it, no degradation of video quality due to repeat viewings and someone talking to an interested party could instantly bring up video on what that person would like to see. (like what Marshall said)

The big problem is gathering footage. I know when I was asked (or maybe I volunteered, I don't remember) to do the Solo Ontario video, I asked everyone to send me video.. only 2 people sent me stuff, one was already an mpeg and didn't recompress well and the other was delivered a couple days after the cutoff and since both people were already in it, I didnt' stress it too much.

I do have video of the OSS series but I'm sure there'd be plenty a complaint since it's all of one guy and features more than it's share of "bumps". :)
