Simple needs: V8, 5 speed. Prefer Camaro/Firebird but a Mustang will do.
Must be running, within 30,000 miles of Toronto and under $2000.

Er, I think every car ever made fits this criteria. Except those dune buggies the Apollo astronauts left on the Moon.
You weren't looking for a lunar buggy, were you?

Name something other than a Camaro,Firebird, Trans-Am, Capri or Mustang that come in a 5 speed and V8..... and trucks don't count.... yeah, didn't think so.

Wouldn't keep you warm though.

Well considering this past weekend was the first ice weekend(cancelled but none the less)and your still looking for a car to prep I think its safe to say your shit outta luck for this year!.
Any experience on the ice?,I been playing around there for the last 7 years-the last thing I'd run would be a V8 rwd car.
Way to heavy and keep ripping/breaking the studs, ask Tom prentice as I know he was breaking TONS of studs nearly per race.Part of it is the new studs by Biral, don't seem to hold together nearly as well the ones I used from the previous supplier.Just MO BTW.

I looked but couldn't find an M5 under $9000. Maybe as a street car...
I've run FWD rubber and played midpack for too many years, hopefully I'll be catching some of Toms studs in my teeth, and not just when he's lapping me.
Thanks for the warning on the Biral studs though, I've only got 7 of 8 tires built so far. Now if I could just find a car to put them on....

you don't need no stinking V8.
I think there enough hp mods on the market to make a car like a 240SX competitive...and you can buy one fairly cheap now.
or...go pick up an RX7. you can get one of them cheap also.
Or...be daring...get a Merkur XR4Ti, they had a 2.3 L Turbo.
All would be good cars, and probably handle much better.

It's easier to make more power when you start with more power... plus mods on 302's and 305's are CHEAP.
I am looking at turbo Celicas and Supras, but they get sold to friends, not in public.
The cars you mentioned cost too much to catch Tom Prentice, thats why they let in V8's the mods on the V6's were hitting $3000-$4000.
But if you see a $2000 Mustang SVO turbo 4 cylinder....drool.

Are automatics any good? I know where a few older camaros are. The circle track guys love them since they are bulletproof, have 350's generally, and handle good with minor inexpensive mods.
Most are automatics, but they are TH350s.

Thanks, but I never feel like I'm driving when I'm in them.
Plus, I can't hear the engine over my screaming at the tranny  "Why did you shift there? There was 700 RPM left in the power band!!!! " "Kick down! Kick down!! you motherf*****"
etc, etc.
Please everyone, just keep your ears open, I'll luck out soon, I'm bidding on Ebay, An' I feel lucky :D

Another option would be a ae86 corolla-light,well balanced and fairly easy to drive with the right set-up.
Oh and I have one-race prepped and soon to be supercharged.I'd bet I could run with any v8 no problems as that strait is nowhere as long as all those corners for the remainder of the track.
Cars to pretty for ice racing.......yet!

Looks like I just bought myself my first Ford. 86 Mustang notchback. A little engine work already done. Bar installed Friday. Prep Friday Night. Deliver to the track this weekend.
All set for weekend two if I can finish my wifes tranny install up there.
Thanks for the feedback folks.

Hey silverwolf, you mentioned looking for turbo celica's-did you phone me the other week looking to see if mine was still for sale?.
BTW I used the screws from holliday racing screws with good results,2 seasons and about 16 tires with no failures.Hell I didn't even add a single pound of air to any tires for the entire season-even left them on the car the week between events.
Then again I was running an '83 civic that weighed about 1600lbs and made about 80hp so I didn't stress the screws that much.Didn't even lose air after those 2 rollovers!!:o

Saw this on the TFBM list.
86 Camaro parts for sale. Have complete base Camaro for sale. Has a 305 w/700R4 trans. Interior ok, some body rust, but not in bad shape. Hardtop, No headliner in it. Will be parting out. Have ownership with undated bill of sale, but not in my name. Not sure of rear gears or if its got a limited slip diff (RPO sticker missing). New front brakes with 0 km on them. Car does run, and I was going to get it safetied. All it needed was a right turn signal bulb. Factory style cat back in great shape, but it needs new manifolds and a y-pipe. It had a 2.8 V6 in it, now it has the 305, but the guys who put the motor in put on the wrong manifolds and hacked a stock y-pipe to get it to fit. I'm lazy and its cold so i'd like this to sell complete for cheap. Car will be missing the items below as I will be selling them seperate. Will consider selling whole if someone is interested.
Brand new Edelbrock 600cfm carb. Has 20 minutes running time on it. Manual choke.
Edelbrock performer style intake. I can't remember if its an Edelbrock intake or a clone, carb threads good. Some of the threads in the intake where the carb linkage bolt down to have broken bolts in them and need to be removed.
Mallory 3 way (with tank return line) adjustible fuel pressure regulator. This is the reg u want if you are running a carb setup with a high pressure in-tank electronic fuel pump. The return line reduces pressure build up in the fuel line and will prevent the in-tank fuel pump burning out. Comes with a fuel pressure gauge as well. Great item if you plan to swap a tbi V6 for a carb V8.
TH350 conversion kit for 82+ f-bodies. I have the bracket and a TH200 driveshaft. Also have a TH350, it worked last time i used it, but I would't trust it. $50 takes it all.
16" Trans Am wheels. Not GTA rims. 245/50/16s up front (ok shape) 255/50/16 rears (need replacing) Michellin Pilot tires mounted. $200 for the 4 rims.
Prices: Car complete with everything $500. Car minus carb, intake reg, $150. Carb $200, intake $75, reg with gauge $100. TH350 kit w/driveshaft $50. Rims $200. All prices obo.
Have a digital cam so if you want pics of anything please let me know. Got a mini-van and selling stuff to fund next seasons motorcycle track days. Will consider trades for all or any items for a small trailer that can carry a bike.

I don't have the time to fix it either, but I'm thinkin....either. Just bought an '86 mustang 5.0 than runs 1/4 miles in the low 11's. Hope I can make it stick to ice.

Not a chance!!!
Hell mustangs don't even stick to ashpalt worth a shit.
I still don't get why anyone would think adding power and tq to a heavy car will make it a fast ice racer, you need good power for sure but the car needs to be light.
Remember there's only 24 studs per foot of tire and each one of those can only transfer so much force into the ice-the lighter the car the less work each of those studs has to do so the grip goes up.
There was a guy there in '95 running a toyota starlet with 4ag power(fully built with cams, compression and sidedrafts)and I doubt very much there's anything in rwd that would even come close that car even now.
I was surprised that Toms mustang is as quick as it is,BUT I'm sure a light car with decent power and chassis tuning would run circles around it.I'm hoping Jimmy lets me take a few laps in his MR2 stud car-it could be quick with the right set-up.

That Starlet belonged to Mark and Nick Taylor and indeed that thing rocked the casbah...old age and rust did it in however. I loved the sound that it made....Those MR2's, once sorted and with decent tires should be giving Tom fits I hope soon.
it will be interesting to see if Carol Raitts stang will offer any competition....TD.

I would like to see the MR2's(they are surprising heavy for a small car) pick up the pace as well,I think my ae86 would make a decent stud car once its time is up as a solo/drift car.
Its already received plenty of suspension upgrades, lightened and will have supercharged power before spring so I think it would be a very competitive combo.
