View Full Version : maybe CASC is missing out on something?
the scca is now in "drifting"

Adam, I believe Drift Nation is looking into CASC affiliation...hopefully this goes through and we can all help grow this new discipline. I'll go drifting with you any time you want a co-driver for your Nissan :)

Agreed... best thing that could ever happen to solo-motorsports.

sarcasm???? whats that???
i've got mixed feelings with drifting being under the same SCCA body as other Motorsports
kinda like...
Freestyle motocross vs. an actual race.
Evil Knievel vs. Eddie Lawson
in a nutshell.. i'd say Drifting is "sports entertainment"
vs. a true form of motorsport
do you really think the police or the insurance companies, or the property owners really care whos who???
we'll all be lumped into one group
Brampton might be ok with the amount of tiremarks left after the drifting event last year..
but who knows if the other venues will feel the same??

There are many examples of sports where judges are used to evaluate performance instead of a stopwatch.
There's no guarantee drifting will be lumped in with any other CASC disciplines for insurance purposes. That's to be decided by ASN, CASC and the insurance company (if they haven't already). John, Perry, Wes or Christian could probably tell us more since they're on the CASC BoD. My best guess is that they'll create an unique insurance category for drifting and that the rates will be somewhere between Solo 1 and Solo 2.
Alberto could obviously tell us more, but my understanding is that most of the drift events will be held on skid pads at race tracks and then later on race tracks themselves. I don't expect there to be much drifting in local parking lots, so I don't think there's any need for the Solo 2 community to get too up in arms about it.
Lets not beat this dead horse too badly again...

exactly.. and each style/branch of that particular sport
is usually governed by a different body
and sports where a JUDGE is used vs. a ref or an official is used
is usually an exhibition or for sports entertainment

The big drift days haven't had a venue location announced yet but the dates have been mentioned to me.The drift school days are to be held at the mosport skid pad, and brampton center.
Shouldn't be a big deal as the school days are just that-school days and not competition's so the #'s will be very limited.
I'm with Dave,no further drift bashing needed.

I'd love to give it a try.
I'm a little bummed about missing the Auto-x last Sunday - they were always a lesson in controlled drifting - then again, so was the last TLMC event i took part in.
Tom - maybe I can offer a co-drive on my new ride for a chance to drift the AE86 ?

I hope drifting in Canada takes off... I enjoyed drifting the Vette during wet qualifying at Mosport at the end of '03... Haha, it was fun having a full drift all the way through the whole corner 5 complex. Corner one was also good for that... Some of the others were a bit too dangerous, namely the ones with the concrete patching.
Do you know where we can find info on drifting days??? I think Shannonville would be excellent for it, as there is lots of run-off. I haven't been on the Mosport DDT since I was karting in '99, but it looks from the photos that it would suit drifting rather well. I guess if I were to go drifting, I would have to get a slightly better car than my rusty, soft suspension'd, open-diff Mk1 MR2! hahaha... Anyone know of any 240SX's or rwd Corollas for sale?? ;)

Tom Smith's.......? Corolla or 240SX? Is it for sale? I think I know who you are talking about, but I'm not 100% sure.

Ahh, yes, I know the car. I was thinking more along the lines of a $2500-or-less step-up-from-a-beater-type corolla... ;) I would love Tom's car though... :D

Feels good to be so well known!;)
Yep since everybody wanted it but nobody coughed up the cash it'll be a drift car this year(maybe next too?)and might become a stud tire ice racer in the future once it starts getting ratty.
Malcolm you could check on toyotanation.com for corolla's for sale-most that pop up there are VERY ratty and not worth a damn IMO,also driftnation.com has links to a few 240sx clubs with for sale sections. It'll be way way easier to find a decent 240 than a corolla gts.

awesome... thank you very much Tom. My main passion is racing the vette, but my guilty pleasure is drifting... Gotta love it. :)
