This thread is for people to post in, and we can collectively class you in advance of an event.

Post car, year, engine.

Tires

suspension mods ie lowering springs/struts (type) sway bars

Engine mods

Anything that is different from stock and we will class you!

Ok my car is a 1988 toyota mr2 supercharged

stock engine
over driven supercharger
running megasquirt (aftermarket ECU)
upgraded clutch with stock flywheel

Koni yellow shocks
sleeve over coilovers with springs

Willwood Brake calipers

I have not yet decided if I am going to run my toyo RA1's or my yokohama S-drives

What class am I in?

Thanks

guessing you have bigger injectors too (megasquirt)
does it have the stock header?
do you have stock sway bars too?
what about weight reduction? removed/lightened panels or lights?

we've had lightly moded mr2's run in CSS before, if you have too many points you'll move up to CSP.

Paul, the brake change is a big no-no in Super Stock. If the calipers stay, the car moves to Street Prepared.

the class (CSP) will not change if you run any of those tires.

however, if you run the s-drives, then you also have the option of going into ST2 (Street Tire Class)

I am not as familiar with the Street Tire classes as I am the others, but I am under the impression that changing the boost settings, with either software or the pulley as you have done is not allowed in those classes.

If you had no boost change, you could be eligible for ST, but with it, you are going to be in SP.

I have had a boost change so I guess I am in SP no matter what tires I run.

Ok, need another opinion to confirm:

I previously ran in SS, but I have since put in an all aluminum rad (OEM has plastic tanks). I am hoping to stay in SS and not get bumped to SP.

Does this change qualify if I take these prep points?

is it the same size/capacity as oe? just with aluminum rail tanks instead of plastic ones?

zerocool82
05-04-2011, 11:39 PM
Good question! I was under the impression it was the same size, but after some quick research turns out it has a 40mm core (OEM was 33mm). Other than that it was a direct fit and same overall dimensions.

I'm only out for fun at these events so I'd rather be classed right than deal with any issues. It's just nice to have a chance in my class though :)

It seems i can't run STU, is that right?

If i can't run STU looks like I'm running street tires in FSP :(

Did the PAX numbers change at all?

I may be wrong, but the move from a 7.5" to an 8" wheel is noticable, especially when we all see how all of the Stock class cars that were running wider than stock wheels and were performing much better than the rest of the prep levels.

I did not see this Bulletin before, even though it is dated in early May. Still, I guess I can now use my 8" wheels in ST, even though I was told earlier to go out and buy some 7.5" ones, which I did.

Also, I think that the allowance for boost modifications is a big shift in the class balance. A normally aspirated car that would have been closer in performance to a turbo car is now pretty much out of luck, as we have now given a turbo car a huge boost in power.

These 2 changes surely should cause the PAX numbers to be revisited, as the changes were made after they were finalised.

Looking forward to seeing you at an event.

Hey everyone.

I'm a little slow in how autox works so bare with me.

Is the next event at:
Event#5 Sun Jul 17 hosted by PMSC - Peterborough, ON (Kawartha Downs Speedway Oval)

a typical autox event or is it some sort of cones around a oval type thing? Does someone have videos?

Also, can someone class my car:
2003 mustang gt v8
- aftermarket wheels with 140 street tires (don't stick out past the fender). Stock rim and tire size is 17x8 and 245's. I have 17x9 and 255's.

- aftermarket pulleys

- catback exhaust, k and N air filter

- upgraded brakes

- removed my passenger seat

- subframe connectors to stiffen chassis

Would love to try autoxing and just trying to gauge how competitive the car would be as it sits.

Thanks!

If I use my stock rims with stock sized street tires, and put the passenger seat back in, does that change anything?

edit:
Just read the rule book for the street tire class, looks like STU it is. I have one question though, it says in the rulebook:

"3. SFCs must be bolted in place and not welded."

My SFC's are welded. How does that affect things?

edit 2:

Reading the rulebook, it looks like the lowest class that allows frame connectors is ESP. Correct me I'm wrong.

edit 3:

I am using 3 / 15 points allowed in ESP, that too without R compound tires and other free mod items. Looks like I should start saving up :)

Hi Ujjwal,

I don't believe anyone will protest you for a welded vs bolted subframe. But even in FS, you'll be competing against others that have sported R compound tires, and since we don't differentiate between Premium R's and non premium R's, it should be an interesting battle.

Feel free to run in FS or STU and come out to enjoy.

To be even close to running in FS, you would need to put the seat back in, the OE pulleys back on, the subframe connectors would need to come off, the OE wheels (or dimensionally correct, based on the rulebook) would need to b, and it all depends on how you upgraded your brakes. ie - if you simply changed rotors and pads, you could stay in Stock.

The rulebook is written in a rather harsh and rigid method. It is meant to be followed, and even if you are not protested, you are still illegal. I know that is a rather nasty way of putting it, but it is the reality of our rules package.

Speaking of which, Andrew, can you please remove 14.4.iii from the rulebook? It is redundant - not allowed in stock, and free in SS and up.

Hi all again I was post #2 and I am in CSP class with my 88 toyota mr2 supercharged. last weekend I had to run the car without boost on a low comp engine and had a lot of fun (one of my co-drivers finished 3rd in SP with PAX correction at the TLMC event)

So what if I took the below CSP car and installed a 4age silvertop in it? (naturally aspirated, itb, JDM engine) this engine is only a different head then the engine I have but it never came in a mr2

Thanks Guys!
